First try with break barrel

I visited a fellow air gunner to purchase some pellets from him and as we were discussing guns I told him I’d never shot a break barrel gun. 
He offered to sell me a gun saying I could bring it back if I didn’t like shooting it. 
I don’t know what scope is on it but I believe it to be 4 power and not the best set up for my crummy eyesight. 
I set up a target at 35 yards and shot some at the top dot just to see where it was hitting.

I made some scope adjustments while shooting at the lower bull then set the target at 20 yards for 10 shots.

Last target was 10 more shots at 20 yards.



For $100 gun and scope I think it does okay considering the blind guy pulling the trigger.

The trigger is a bit stiff and almost acts like a two stage with some take up and then a quick break.

So I guess I’m now the owner of a Gamo Silent Cat.

Gamo makes good rifles. Many of them need a little tlc to bring the best out of them. If you need a better trigger Charlie da tuna makes an excellent drop in trigger. Every month or two or if you have noticeable change in fps put some toilet paper on top of the breech and fire. If the tissue flies up or gets a hole torn in it you must change the rear barrel seal. I would buy a couple seals and keep them around just in case you need to change them. When you eventually blow the piston seal you can put in a drop in tune kit and hone and clean the internals. You don't have to do that last part but I tuned a Gamo hornet and that thing was smooth as glass. Have alot of fun with that thing. Some people here would say Gamo is junk but that's nonsense. I've played with gamos since I was a teen. Generally if one is working well like yours it will remain working well. The problem is that some of them may have factory quality control issues. Usually that's a nicked piston seal or an improperly seated rear barrel seal. I always buy from Walmart or big5 so I can return them if necessary. Every time I got one that worked well it remained working well. I think you will have the same experience. Did the guy you bought it from tune it or is it stock?

Went out after supper and tried a couple more “groups”. Spread them out some but off the bipod with no real good rear rest. 


I’ve had good luck with Hawke scopes so I might try to find a Vantage on eBay with more power and see if it will hold up.

Unless things really changed the Vantage line is only recommended for UP TO 12fpe on springers, ask Hawke. Also there is NO mount that will supplant a warranty recommendation of scope application.

I appreciate the offer Frank. While looking through my scope stash I found a Hawke 2-7 with an adjustable objective. 
I think I only paid $75 for it so if it breaks it won’t be any great loss as I have nothing else to use it on at the moment. I don’t plan on hunting anything that can eat me with it anyway. 


Set up at 20 yards with an upper and lower dot on the target. First shot was at the lower dot and it landed a couple of inches above the upper dot. Lol. 
Cranked down and hit low. Adjustment got me on the bull and another got me on the center. 


Shot a dozen shots at the upper bull after. 

Not great but minute of squirrel at that range.
