For $1700, which would you buy: Impact or Maverick?

I figured there aren't enough Maverick threads, so let's start another one! ;)

If a good shooting Impact showed up on the Classifieds for $1700, would you buy it or spring for a new Maverick? The pros and cons of each as I see them are:

Impact:

Pros:

  • More proven platform - been around for awhile now, we generally know whatever issues it has by now
  • Ability to adjust the valve
  • High capacity magazine
  • More lefty friendly magazine placement
  • Better safety placement
  • Better(?) gauges
  • Better looking (IMO)

Cons:

  • More expensive

Maverick:

Pros:

  • Dual regulators
  • Bigger plenum
  • Higher shot count?
  • Less expensive
  • Newer, shinier

Cons:

  • As yet unproven platform
  • Smaller capacity magazine; worse placement for lefties
  • Poor safety location
  • Uglier :)

The above is far from a comprehensive list so please feel free to add your own. As the owner of two great shooting Impacts right now, I'm not compelled to replace either one of them with a Maverick. That's not to say that if a deal popped up in the Classifieds that I wouldn't pick it up just out of curiosity.

So if it was your $1700, what would you do and why?

[Edit: for the sake of this thread, please just stick to either the Maverick or Impact - I know there are plenty of other options that might be a better alternative for your specific taste . . . but that's not what this thread is about.]

I just went through this. I have been waiting 6 months for my Impact. Right when my gun arrives in the states, so does the Maverick. I paused for a moment and had to make a decision before I settled up with what I owed the dealer. I’m older and wiser now. I no longer jump on the latest and greatest. Been burned too many times. Two things made the decision easy for me. The key feature that makes the impact great, the Maverick doesn’t have. The second is if the Maverick was better it would cost $2,200. I also look at it like this, if you have $1,700 to blow on an airgun, you also have $2,000. If the top tier Maverick was $1,495, now Fx would have a nice progression of guns. Dreamline Compacts $1,200, Maverick $1,500, Impact $2,000.

NEITHER .... Buy a TAIPAN Veteran and nice scope for it .... DONE

You're not playing the game correctly ;)

There are a bazillion other alternatives and just as many opinions as to why any one of them would be better than either the Impact or Maverick. This thread is specifically addressing the two options and why one would buy one versus the other.

Agree with all those reasons, no reason to repeat them...Impact.

Everyone should already own a Taipan. A smart airgunner should always have a gun in his safe that never leaks, creeps, or changes POI. A gun you can pull out to shoot while your other guns are in pieces waiting for parts or mods. Had my Taipan since 2017, it’s been a rock. It’s boring but some of us can appreciate and respect boring.

Maverick with someones else's $$$

Better but not better staying OXIMORON is the best I can do ... lol

All I can say is if you have a properly working Impact it will be unbelievably accurate at long distance and I strongly suggest not touching a damn thing once set perfectly for one specific ammo and if you want to shoot other ammo like different weight pellets or slugs buy additional Impacts in the same calibers and set them once for each specific ammo if long distance repeatable accuracy is important to you.

I bet there are many Impact owners who have a lot of duplicate Impacts in the same calibers because of this logic.

Are you stuck on the bullpup platform? If so, I would buy a used Impact over the Maverick. There are plenty of aftermarket parts to play with if you need to, but they shoot pretty well out of the box. Shot count, dual regulators and all that crap are academic IMO, as long as they shoot. I have two Impacts, but I just got a good deal on a Crown. I'm competing in 100 yard matches. The Impact 30 is very capable, but my Crown 22 shooting JSB KO slugs is very competitive. I kinda like conventional rifles a bit more than the hardware store collection of parts like the Impact types.
