Yeah, but in the USA ... every other day we get to read/watch videos about the latest shooting rampage --->
--- Why use fists and bottles when most anyone can get their hands on an AR-15(n).

Then again, all Nations have problems --- no matter what the Laws areo_O.

- I just quietly shoot my (19) airguns at paper targets:).

True, but the state of Florida is about the size of great Britain. The usa is monstrous by comparison. Also there is a mental health epidemic here that pretty much unchecked, aside putting everyone on antidepressants.

Mass shootings never used to happen and everyone had guns back then still, every pickup in every college parking lot used to have a rifle in the back window and there were no mass shootings (paraphrasing)

There is definately an active gun grab here and that's why the media is pushing anti gun stories.

Yeah, I consider myself as a Moderate and wish the Assault Weapons could be managed better, but in College - back in the day ('80's) I had my Winchester 30/30 and Remington 742 Woodsmaster (30-06) hung on my (off campus), bedroom wallo_O.

Jezz, I bet that wouldn't go over to well now days ..... ;); I also Trick-or-Treated (Halloween) as a hunter with a shotgun .......

I'd ask you to define that thing you want better managed but we'd both get a time out. Lets's just say that it's a made up term and call it a day.

As we have seen, the World is a different place than than it was 40+ years ago ... too many people worried about gun related news/issues.
During this time I lived in Michigan where hunting was the Norm ... the growth of our cities have taken much of this away.

You can tell, I long for 10 acres in the Countryside with a 100 yard shooting range for my RAW HM1000x LRT's:).

Think you're gonna just say "I think I'll go get an FAC today". Ha! Sit up and beg like a doggie. See if mummie will allow you to have a treat. Lick mummie's feet some more and she'll think about it................... Perhaps next year.......... if she doesn't forget. and isn't too busy, so many little doggies to keep safe! And you've been a very good obedient little twit.
Then,,,,,,, maybeeeee. IF, IF......... you can prove you have nice safe inspected and approved land to shoot it. And only EVER shoot it there. Maybe. We'll see.
Now GO AWAY!
Thank goodness the Patriots won the Revolutionary War… alas we still have lots of Tories here in the USA.

What exactly is an “assault weapon”?

When I live In Bath I always kept a few Chrono strings with my guns in case I had issues. Only time I was ever asked was going thru customs. You'd be surprised how effective 12fpe can be for hunting. And 12fpe spring guns are usually very smooth and easy to shoot.
On that, what is the effective range?

I find it funny how every European country has their own quircky rules when it comes to airguns.

In the Netherlands there is no limit whatsoever on power, caliber or if it's a single shot, semi- or full auto airgun. The only rule (besides the typical age restriction of 18+) is that airguns cannot be a replica of a real firearm (or closely resemble one). So guns like the Crosman AK1 are not for sale here.
In Belgium replicas are allowed, and rifles have no restriction on power/caliber either. But for some reasons, pistols do have a energy limit of 5.5 ft-lb.
France, Germany, Spain, Italy etc, all have their own respective limit on energy, similar to the 12 ft-lb limit in the UK.
Other countries have a limit on caliber size instead.

In my case, I can shoot a .50 cal Umarex Hammer in my backyard no problem, but I'll be in big trouble if I own a 1fpe airsoft glock without proof of membership from the national airsoft association (which requires a kind of background check).

Stabbings are common there now but it tends to be gangs in inner cities and, I hate to say it, but a certain demographic.

Violent crime and belligerence is MUCH more common there than here. I'm talking fists and bottles; you can blame the alcohol culture for that.
In my 4 years in Bath I had 7 incidents where I was followed leaving a bar or club late at night. I avoided a confrontation most of the time but twice it kicked off. Grew up in DC goin to hardcore and punk shows and live in TX now between the two only had 1 incident. Different mentality

60yrds for rats and grey squirrels. You could stretch it out a bit further but it was usually easier to move closer slowly.

That's what I thought. Sadly living in the wide open spaces, literally, 100 yards IS my minimum . Even with my .22 I have to blow through 12fp to get any distance.

For a couple of years I hunted small game and pest with a 12fpe 177... Why... because I could and it was fun..back then moderators wasn't available everywhere like today and a 12fpe PCP tuned properly was very quiet to shoot. make no mistake about it... anything up to 50 yards was toast..(I wouldn't push it beyond that. Besides part of the fun was getting in close) I adopted the saying after that.."lead in the head is dead"... doesn't matter if it's 12fpe or 100fpe.. results were the same.

Yes, the term is very ambiguous and titilating.

Technically, an assault weapon could be seen as Will Smith’s hand against Chris Rocks face.

However, I was thinking more of shoulder arm capable of taking out masses of people, requiring very little knowledge or skill other than loading, turning off the safety and pulling the trigger.

I grew up hunting, fishing, target and trap shooting as a basic part of everyday life.
unfortunately, some things have gotten out of hand …. and IMO it would be foolish for our leaders not to attempt to curb these situations through non-emotional negotiation.

I will not say anymore on the topic …. :)

Ya 100m would be tough. You'd need to get an FAC. The fields on the permission I went to had nice stone walls so it was easy to get stuff close to the brush and wooded sections. At my rugby club the pitches backed up to thet river so I was usually able to sit along the edge and get good shots.
