forced questions during registering to the forum

First off this was Sqwirls57's idea that i think is VERY needed and spot on.

Access to the classifieds is such a common question it should be part of the registration process at this point. Before it lets you create the account you should have to read the rules and then it asks you one multiple choice question to continue:

"When can a new member use the classifieds?"

A) ......
B) ......
C) ......
D) ......

I would expand this to questions for nearly all the common topics that new users seem to have. The use of the search feature, whats the purpose of the general section, what are the subsections for etc. As sqwirl suggested, forcing them to answer questions when registering means they cant skip by this.

And doing so wil be the end of new users.

Its an airgun forum, not a Citizenship test......
lols what answering a couple questions to help inform them and answer questions that get asked all the time will be the end to new users? If they are that lazy good riddance. Its better than the nonsense on a weekly basis. I mean theres a huge banner at the top of the classifieds saying to click here for the rules nad scammers yet week after week you get people crying they cant post there or pm. Guess youve not seen some FB groups that get a large amount of new users daily yet have a ton of questions to answer before their application to join is reviewed.

Again it was someone elses idea that I echoed and added to it because it was a good one.

I stay farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr away from facebook.

Instead of a quiz, modify "the rules" to include include a check box for each line item in the rules so you must check off each one ("initial here, here, and here...") , then you can not advance until you cehck the box that says "I have read and understand the above rules".

IMO you will never eliminate the continuous "yet week after week you get people crying they cant post there". Most forums have an FAQ yet folks will continue to ask those exact things.

That’s @Michael ’s call. @MysticalDragon Why not tag him in the thread?

I’ve participated in a forum where I was contacted by the owner prior to being granted privileges to participate. He communicated to me some of the foolishness that he had to deal with, it seemed a bit more than I’d anticipated, but after our conversation I understood where he was coming from and respect what he has done. What we see and what they see are different. I don’t think a quiz or acknowledging that one has read the rules is a bad idea, especially the rules regarding posting in the classifieds forum. But also other rules. In going that route we may also want to consider the fact that we don’t all have the same reading and comprehension abilities (for various reasons), so that may only take us so far.

The way some of these repetitive questions are presented gets montonous the more time you spend in the forums. What I find more annoying are some of the attitudes of people offended by the suggestion that they do some reading to learn about what they claim they’d like to know. Yet, I still think that an FAQ would be a great reference, but it would be just that - a reference. It is reasonable to expect the repetitive questions to continue to come, but at least we’d have something more uniform to refer newer members to that is well accepted, vetted, and perhaps can be added to or improved upon to remain relevant (just as many threads do) to the point where a significant number of members aren’t complaining about folks referring newer members to well thought out and articulate information presented by competent and knowledgeable members. It would be extremely helpful if this information was readily available and concentrated as opposed to being scattered across multiple threads asking the same or similar questions where someone seeking info can find a bit here and a bit there only to be exhausted by the process before finding a satisfactory solution. This has been discussed in multiple posts and some seem to think that the dialog, regardless of how repetitive it is, is “fun.” And maybe it is on the surface or in the moment, but what about when a critical component in your airgun or compressor fails you? Is it fun having to sift through repetitive questions with piecemeal responses lacking the information essential to your repair or application? Couple that with having had a long or crappy work day or a not so good day health wise prior to beginning your search for information to remedy your gun or compressor issue(a). This is part of why I created two specific and purpose driven threads: “All Things Evol” and “All Things Huben.” I wanted to demonstrate that it could be done on AGN and that organizing and concentrating information is beneficial to our airgun community. Yes, I created the threads and have the ability to alter them to a degree, but this is not about me. I hardly participate in those threads aside from trying to keep them focused upon their intended purpose, to contribute what I can, or to seek information. A large part of the reason that I created those threads was to concentrate pertinent information for those looking for it in order to make the search process easier. Another reason was because a member casually asked for it and I wanted to see if another way of organizing information could be effective on AGN. I think this is in alignment with what Airgun Nation stands for. This is what I have tried to communicate in the past that some don’t seem to grasp or agree with. I’ve read the OP state similar sentiments in one of his recent posts. Addressing what I find annoying isn’t the aim of the site, but facilitating the connection of like minded airgunners to one another and to helpful information is a part of the site’s aim as an “epicenter for learning, sharing, and discussing everything related to airguns.” So I see validity in these sort of concerns or requests.

That's why I hate so many threads on the same topic, especially when the subject lines are clear, because it burries and scatters the helpful info.

A faq could be useful, if only to focus the info. Many of Franklin's threads deserve to be in the resource section. Sadly too many would be too lazy to look in the faq section and still would want it spoon fed to them.

I didn't tag Michael because I'm sure he gets alot and why I utilized the appropriate feedback section.

@MysticalDragon I tagged him. A Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) sticky or forum would definitely be useful because we continue to see iterations of or the exact same questions asked over and over.

There are many members here that have been extremely helpful. I think some of their contributions (posts or threads) should have a forum, be included in the FAQ forum, or sticky posts or something. The thing about stickies is they are more of an arbitrary thing. I’ve seen them come and go, so I am more in favor of a forum. I realize it is work and takes a lot of time to compile information, but I’m willing to do some of that work if that’s what’s needed to make it happen. Some of the extremely helpful members that come to mind are: @nervoustrig, @Franklink, @AirNGasman, @Humdinger, @Bigragu, @Ballisticboy, @Centercut. There are others, but I can say that I’ve seen these members articulate information in many ways helpful to AGN members and readers. I’ve found information from all of these members helpful at one time or another. I’ve read enough of their content and contributions to have a decent understanding of areas in which I think they have demonstrated proficiency. Another nickel for the bucket. I think I’m beyond $0.02.
