free floating barrels

If, and it is a big if, a person was satisfied with one cal. one bbl. only, with no experimenting with others,.Allen Z came up with a solution years ago.

He specialized with Rapids and Styer, and Anchutz. (SP)?. He would tune ag's for top competition and was may still be considered a Guru of ag accuracy.

He would get the gun right, and accurate and then steel epoxy the bbl into the receiver. solid as a pb. But just as a typical pb, no changing the bbl with out a lot of work.

Why we can't have decent receivers and threaded bbl's is beyond me. We pay enough for top methods. We just don't get it other than guns from people like Thomas, Mac-1 and oddly a few past models from of all people, Evanix. GRRRR!!!

Me, I experiment far to much for the epoxy method. LOL

I have been thinking about slittiing the top of the receiver and putting Heli coil inserts and bolts to act much like a Thomas and Mac-1. Just a thought. This would allow changing bbl's and have bank vault strength. Kinda the best of both worlds. ;<)

I hard fit my barrels to the Raptor frame to the point that I have to slowly, gently tap them into the action with a 1 lb dead blow hammer. Dead Tight. To remove them, I use a notched soft wood 2x4 that snugs around the barrel behind the ldc and tap the barrel and shroud out. Each barrel is CF wrapped and hard fit to its individual shroud as a single unit. A CF Bull Barrel if you will.

Accuracy is definitely improved. Bumping doesn't impress them much either. LOL

Be careful what you say lol. Last time I brought up premium brands that rather use cheap ass methods to connect barrel to frame (1 crubscrew or 2) than doing it proper with threading I ended up getting mountains of anrgy comments.. I personally think this really bad way of fitting barrels is one big main reason why alot of airguns have bad habbit of changing Poi and push this sport back alot and is only and mainly done to cut costs on 2k+ guns... I simply dont see why we accept it.. If manufacturers can do proper threaded barrel and freefloat it in 200$ PB I cant see how ppl can swallow it without biting on 2k+ airgun.

There appears to be a misconception here. A barrel band supports the shroud, not the barrel. The barrel remains supported by the shroud in exactly the same as it came from the factory. The band prevents handling stresses like bumping from affecting the barrel to receiver connection.

Yes sir, like this-

Anytime I get a tube or bottle gun in my hands, the first thing I address is the unsupported shrouds. I design it, draft it, and send it off to get made. The maverick will be the next one. If I could get a crown in my hands I’d do the same. Already have one for the hatsan hercules Bully-

My barrel shroud is currently off of my Bully. Doing a barrel conversion to the FX STX liner system
