FT Hunter Class

Looking for quick tips on this. It will be my first competition but I have all year to practice. I know how to shoot respectably, however I need tips on ranging with parallax. I only have a 3-12x44 UTG scope on my gun and I am not looking to purchase top end equipment. I just want to have fun, so any tips will help with the whole process and what I should practice most of! Thanks guys

Practice the close shots, doesn't matter the scope or class, [practice the close shots. Your ranging wont be stellar past 40 anyway but should you b e near 20fpe you are dealing with very little and even at 12fpe with the new super large kill zones you'll be fine.

Marking your own range tape is #1 as far as the scope goes and you might consider a collar on your A/O for markings. If you can fit say a 1" ( more) larger , something, over the A/O for markings you wont have to look up, and, you will have more room between marks just like a larger side wheel.

Practice forced positions also.

FT is the most fun you can legally have.

Install as large a sidewheel as you can comfortably use. Tape a paper label on the sidewheel.

Off to Lowe's. Buy a decorative concrete block that is as rough as possible on on side like this

doesn't have to be red. The irregular surface will aid in focusing for distance. Every yard from 10 to 30 (if your scope can distinguish much after 25 yards). Then every 5 yards.

Zero your scope at 27 yards. Then figure the holdovers at those distances.

Good luck

Mount your scope 3" min from the center of the scope tube to the center of the bore at the breech. This will keep your 55yd holdover to one mil or less if shooting 18-20fpe with the scope at 12x. It will make accurate ranging less important past 40yd.

I should have mentioned the 3" is height between the two.

Have fun, first and foremost. Practice, practice, practice. Get into a routine and dont rush your shots. Don’t shoot at the wrong target (yes I did this at my first match). Field target is a ton of fun, something very satisfying dropping that steel target. Anyone that likes to shoot needs to get to a match if at all possible. You’re gonna wish you started sooner, I know I am.
