Never even thought about a shooter texting info about a lane or target to a buddy shooter during a match. That would be dirty!
For a wind indicator I use a flag made out of survey tape, a zip tie, some fishing line and swivel. It helps to let me know what the wind is doing- where I'm sitting anyhow.
I have used a 'audio countdown' app on my phone to give me a audible countdown when my time starts to run out. But I approved that use with the match director as well as those shooters I was squaded with before hand to make sure there was no objection.
