FT question on use of scope

I don’t shoot FT, but I know generally you are not allowed to touch your scope during the match while you are shooting targets. Q. However, if you want to adjust your parallax or magnification ( not your turrets) to shoot a specific target are you allowed to to that? In other words, no touching turrets but only adjusting parallax or magnification to get the focus sharper?

Thanks, Tom

magnification no higer than 12 you can have a scope higher than that but cant mess with it during the match

Bear witch me here.

So no magnification higher than 12X - check, got it

No touching /clicking turrets - check, got it

I want to shoot a FT at 55 yards. I have a 55 yard tape marked on my focus wheel, which I know is dead on and the reticle is in focus at 55yards. So what good is it if I can’t adjust the parallax on my focus wheel, to the 55 yard mark on my scope? If I can’t adjust parallax to the appropriate yard mark on the tape, what’s the point of taped yardage on the focus wheel?

I know I’m missing something.

It all depends on what AAFTA class you’re shooting. WFTF and Open classes allow everything on the scope to be changed........turrets, parallax, magnification. In Hunter class you can adjust parallax since that’s the primary way of range finding. You can also adjust the magnification as long as you never go above 16X. It used to be 12X but was changed to 16X 3 or 4 years ago. The only real reason for adjusting the magnification down is some like to shoot the forced positions on 10X. On higher magnification movement is exaggerated.

So, I’m not crazy in my logic. Thanks for clarifying!

Yup ... after 2017 AAFTA nationals the Hunter Class ( RIFLE ) went to 16X maximum. Any mag scope can be used ... BUT NEVER never never raised above 16x for any reason.

You can go lower as stated in forced lanes to clam down the wiggles.

Hunter Class & Unlimited ( PISTOL ) is 12X max and no scope that goes above 12X can be used ... PERIOD !!!

* Unlimited class can click, Hunter Can Not

same deal you can use lower X power if you wish

WFTF & Open classes are Not regulated in X magnification and both allowed to click turrets.

Tom, this is an old photo. The 12x power was raised to 16 power as Scott has stated.

Other than the 12 power in Hunter class being wrong, I think everything else is correct.

WELL .... "unlimited" or out west "freestyle" WAS NEVER an ACKNOWLEDGED class by the AAFTA and honestly should not be presented outside of its intent wished by many to gain traction and become a legal class.

Those of us out west ... NO RANGE FINDERS PERIOD !!! No lasers, No separate sighting systems, No electronic wind meters, No Tripod. BEING NOT A LEGAL CLASS clubs do what they want in this regard and that's just fine. Our club just lets folks shoot and have a Great time.
