Fully tuned and sorted 457 deer rifle?

Shopping for Arkansas legal 40cal/400fpe deer rifle. Still undecided but leaning toward fully tuned and sorted 457 cal products like the Pitbull and Texan SS CF.

I really don't want to tinker with the bits n pieces, prefer a ready to hunt rifle. My wife supports a generous budget so I don't mind paying extra for someone else to provide the power, accuracy and sound moderation in a short, lightweight platform.

Comments please, as always I appreciate AGN member experience and real hunting world wisdom.

What is the max distance you are going for?

There's quite a few options out there, some dependable and accurate stuff and some not so much. I can say that you'll be searching for the correct size and accurate ammo in a few of them, which leads to this...

What's your list of demands? Magazine fed vs single shot, bullpup vs traditional rifle, amount of maximum fill pressure, shot count per fill/top-off, budget, accuracy, country of origin.

Yes lots of options so appreciate the help.
Prefer but not absolute...
Magazine fed, short rifle or bullpup, 4500 psi, 3-5 good shots, $2000 including moderator, 2 inch group at 100 yards, US made or at least tuned n tweeked by US business.

Love my 22 flashpup, shoots 1 inch groups at 50 yards. Will give that consideration.
The thing with hatsan is that you have to win the barrel lottery.

Either the bulldog or the Texas is gonna be a great option, especially in 457, if you look through the forums, you will see that a lot of people have had great success with either platform. Not sure if you have looked at the carbine version of the air force but it puts out 400fpe and it's manageable if you want to take it into the woods with you and stalk.

Yes the Bulldog 457 is impressive. I'm wondering if buying a maxed out Pitbull (pitbullairguns.com) would give me the fully sorted bulldog that wouldn't need further upgrades. US Veteran owned business too.

BTW I'm a big star trek fan, maybe the Bulldog appeals to me bc it looks like it was designed by Gene Roddenberry. Just sayin.

barrel lottery is with any brand out there unless you pay big $$$$
i know of several .457 piledrivers that the owners should play the lottery
because the odds are with them....in other words, all 4 of the barrels
are tack drivers with NSA 350gr hp's @ 75yrds.
i shoot my cast 405gr lyman RNFP bullet for 720FPE accurately out to my hunting max
distance of 50yrds.
and my freezers are about full with another 2 months to go...... 🧑‍🌾

Sorry if this is a random question, and I know this is subjective, but how loud are these large bore air guns compared to say a 22? They've got to push a lot more air, but I'm curious if it's comparable or if there's a huge difference.

Also, are good ethical clean kills consistent? Obviously placing a good shot is important, but I'm curious about penetration, if bone is a problem, etc. I hunt deer every year, but I've never thought about going down the road of using an air rifle.

This is the short list gun is the Benjamin Bulldog 457. Because it is well under your 2,000.00 budget, you can get is scoped and tuned to your liking.

Available and in stock at a lot of the bigger retailer's. A lot of them will shoot and tune airguns for a fee too, so give them a call to see what they can do for you. The small custom shops like Pitbull are a one-stop-shop, and will build and tune it to your specific requests.

the piledriver from PA out the box will be just fine for under $1000
folks here just have a bad taste in there mouth about Hatsan. they just have not took the step up
to the piledriver.
i had my doubts, and i've been a big bore airgun hunter since 2016...
but when i seen what it could do, and the accuracy with dependability,
the rest was obsolete..... :sneaky:

They ain’t quiet. And from what I have seen moderators offer little in the way of mitigation. A mod may quiet one down 25-30% theoretically, but it will still be loud compared to a small bore air gun.
They are not backyard friendly in any sense of the term and I would hesitate to shoot my Bushbuck anywhere there are domiciles within 100 yards.

Well I have a 457 carbine doing about 460fpe and unmoderated it sounds louder than a .243 and it kicks like a .30-30
