Fun on a Bun; or I should have held(over) more.

I attended the Connecticut Air Gunners first outdoor match of the year today. My drive started at 5am(36f) to get to the course by 7:30 for setup and to deliver my membership fee for the year. Hollow concrete blocks and clamps for more lanes/targets.

After a couple hours and a few snow squalls I arrived ant the North St location(39f). I was greeted with grey skies and a mostly white field. Please disregard the blue bits in the sky, I didn't get a picture before the match started, this was during but give the view needed for effect ;)

After an hour or so of checking dope sheets, adjusting ang general sight in range tomfoolery the shooters meeting was called. Considering we had 3 new shooters it was an honest, and informative refresher for those of who take some of the basics for granted.

With the final round sent down range(39f) no one hesitated in helping to break down the course and get into their nice warm cars. So about 30min after the match ended the gates were closed and some went home while other met at a nearby restaurant for food and more FT conversation minus the chattering teeth.

I almost forgot to mention why the second title. Well, it was windy, not only gusty, but an honest 10mph wind, with undulating gusts strong enough to push not only your gun, but you off target at times as well. A trying day for those of us not in any sort of shape. I hope you enjoyed the short read and pics. There should be a post of if not a link to the match results in the Competition section in the next few days if you are interested in the numbers.

It was nice cold day with strong winds. This is how it looked the day before the match.

Only geese and duck's footprints and fallen branches sticking under the snow.

This is in the morning, before the match. Some shooters quickly realized they need more layers of clothing. After 2 minutes of practice I've run to the car to get my gloves.

Wind was blowing non stop and gusts of wind were moving not only rifles, but shooters as well.

Thanks Guys, it was a fun day of suck.

Pat, you're more than welcome to attend a match, it's only a couple hours south of you. There is a marauder or ar20 you can borrow. Also there will be matches this summer in Woburn if the travel is too much.

Thanks Matt, that means a lot coming from a seasoned worlds attendee.

And Vasyl, thanks for all the help, and the extra pictures.

I hope to see everyone next month on April 15th for the second match of the season, and hopefully some warmer temps.

John
