FWB 300 & 600 pellet choice

I'm shooting mostly @ 20 to 25 yards with my FWB 603 off a bench, started @ 15 yards but had to move back to make it at least challenging. I understand it's a 10m gun designed to shoot wadcutters but at 25 yards they don't work as well as diabolo pellets for me. Could it be the shape of the pellet wadcutter vs diabolo at longer ranges, or I haven't found the right wadcutter?

Best pellet by far at 25 yards one tiny hole no fliers JSB Exact Premium Diabolo, .177 Cal, 8.44 Grains, Domed, 200ct in the fancy black box

Next AA 7.87 with the occasional flier, could work as good as the above JSBs if sorted but I don't sort yet.

I've tried all the JSB premium wadcutters in the black fancy box and a few others with no luck. Should I try eley, champions choice or other wadcutters for 25 yards and beyond or just stick with diabolos?

I have a good pellet that works great but I'd like to try more, you never know till you try.

Try some H&N Fnale Match 8.18grs pellets. I mainly shoot at 16yds in the yard at house. But I have found these to seat tighter in the chamber than any other pellet. Nothing beats them for consistency at least at 16yds.

My 603JR likes almost everything I feed it. I have a rifle scope on it and shoot 25-30 yards and get the best EXTENDED RANGE results with Crosman brand ammo just about all except the Premier Pointed (the regular crosman pointeds in the 250 count tin from Walmart are the best though) and except the Pirhanas. Specifically likes the 7.4gr Pointed (not Premiers though), The Crosman Premier 7.9gr Hollowpoints, Crosman match both Premier and wadcutters, destroyers, Premiers 7.9gr in the Brown cardboard box.

Try them perhaps yours may prefer them for longer distances as well. The 7.4gr Pointeds in the 250 count tins from Walmart really surprised me.

I use RWS R10 and (try not to laugh)cheap Beeman chinese made black coated Hollowpoints for closer distances if I need absolute 0.0" one hole groups.

H&N Match, FTT, FTS did great, Gamo Match(believe it or not) very good.

The JSB Match and wadcutters were OK but not as perfect at 10 meters.

My 300s which also has a rifle scope mounted on top, has very similar results and favor the cheaper ammo so I got lucky.

I shoot out to 50 yards using the crosman pointed pellets (not the Premier pointed) the regular pointed pellets and the CPHPs and CPLs.

One of my scoped 300s is used to hunt invasive birds such as sparrows and rice birds at distances ranging from 20 to 55 yards which results in excellent clean kills. It chronys at 715fps a foot from the muzzle. My other 300s only does 630fps limiting its effectiveness out to only 45 yards.

They could kill at farther distances but I limit my distance to my 100% hit reliability factor with the BDC hold over scope I have on them resulting in a much better instant kill factor as compared to my 12fpe Field Target rifles which passes through.

I can't speak for a 600 but my 300's like JSB Exact RS 7.33 best followed closely by AA 7.87's. It shoots JSB Match Diablo S100 8.26 and H&N Finale Match 7.87's well too. These groups show what these rifles can do if the monkey behind them does his part.

The "Queen", FWB 300S , five shots @ 25 yards, AA 7.87, factory diopter sights.

More to try I'm also using a scope Bushnell elite 6-24 target dot and getting around 610 fps. Target below shot at 25 yards believe it or not I've doon better and looking for better.

That's some fine shootin, my 603 likes the same, how do wadcutters do at 25 and beyond.

Roger, I measured this group outside to outside at .174 with my caliper and a bright flashlight. It is a pure 1 holer. And it was tape measured from tip of barrel to target at 16yds. I can't see 9 yards making the accuracy diminish a whole lot if you got no wind to shoot in.

Those pellets I will bet will perform at 25yds and farther.

At 50 feet I get a lot more of those true one hold 5 shot groups than I do at 75 feet. the extra 25 feet brings the wind into play much more with a 8.4gr pellet moving at610 fps. My near zero is 15 yards far zero is 25 yards so for me the 15 yard target is at the beginning of the rainbow while the 25 yard target is at the other end of the drop after that it continues to drop rapidly. Even the slightest wind, velocity change or pellet weight variation will have an effect on a pellet from 15 to 25 yards greatly diminishing the chance of getting a true one hole group. If you look at the target above I shot at 25 yards some of those groups could have been true one hole groups at 15 yards. For the first few days after getting the 603 I shot at 15 to 17 yards, it got boring constantly shooting single hole groups so I moved back to 25, big difference lots more of a challenge.

Well I shoot Rimfire at 50yds when I do go to the range. Even your best airguns out there won't touch some rimfires I have. Accuracy is what it is and what you have to work with and who is doing the shooting. I need to try at 100yds. I bought that gun back in May. First time shooting gun. I don't get bored shooting any accurate gun.

Nice, try that at 100 on a nice windy day. The longer the range the more rewarding when you get one like that. I go to my club most every Sunday and shoot pistols, I have friends that shoot benchrest, I stay away from that arms race. Shooting skills are required for sure but he who has the most money will always have the best gun.

I will disagree with last part. He might have the most expensive, but it don't mean it is the best.

I understand why you disagree and you are right not being the best all the time. You shoot benchrest competitions with a small budget against folks with unlimited funds it's a hard hill to climb. Somewhere out there is a guy that won a match with a off the shelf ruger 1022, but how often does that happen, benchrest and pretty much all competitive shooting is a arms race he with the most money will always have the best money can buy, if he is good thats a tuff combination to beat.
