FX 500 trigger adjustment

I was having an issue with the adjustment of my trigger. The first stage was heavy enough and the second light and shallow enough that I was always second guessing when it was going to fire. Sometimes even though I was taking it really slow I'd end up firing the gun when I wasn't ready. To solve this problem I just lightened the first stage pull spring so that I'd definitely have a differential. Problem solved.

Problem two... even before I lightened the pull spring I could pull the trigger just to the edge of the second stage and take my finger off the trigger and the trigger will stay in that position which isn't all bad because I know where I'm at on the trigger pull sequence and the second stage is crisp enough that very little pressure is needed to fire the gun......or I can push the trigger forward to the starting position and start over.

I don't know the mechanics of the trigger return well enough to know if there is any adjustment to that. Anyone else's trigger act the same.

upper shear is holding the hammer with a fully loaded main spring when cock ---->hammer wants to force the upper shear down----> that's when the lower shear keeps the upper shear to hold the loaded gun, as you can see the trigger blade is attach to the lower shear that has constant tension----so it wont allow the trigger blade from setting forward freely when the trigger is set on the lighter side, there is a reset spring under the rocker to move the trigger blade forward for adjustment---but it will give you a heavy 2nd stage pull if you want the trigger blade to reset every time. I like a lite trigger---so what I do is push the trigger blade forward when I cant shoot right away so I will have a 1st stage again.

edit: after not reading the creep.

the 1st and 2nd stage screws has to be adjusted so when the spring loaded ball just touch the action giving you the positive 2nd stage stop-----with no creep after it should go off when adjusted just right.

Thanks Ernest, that's the way I have been handling the issue. Lowering the trigger tension helped a lot by giving me a nice differential between the first stage and the second. Then I rely on the spring loaded ball as a firmer but no creep second. Yea, when you can leave the trigger blade just resting on the edge of the second stage its kind of like the old "set" triggers that could be found on the Sharps and some muzzle loaders. Like Quigley had, lol
