Tuning FX Barrel tuner plus carbon fiber barrel stiffener?

I have a Maverick Compact that is shooting pretty well...but I've caught the bug on tuning and shooting out to longer distances. I'll be getting the 700 MM(up from the 500MM Compact) but I am wondering if it makes sense to do both the tuner and composite on the 500mm barrel liner. Seems like it should help but is it gonna be worth it to do both?I can't get the barrel tuner system yet(backordered like everything from FX now).

Thoughts?

I think you would get nealy all the benefit with the CF sleeve and stand alone tuner. Some debate on these forums about the true marginal benefit from the tuner, and by many accounts it isn't a walk in the park, and may not be reliable from one setting to another.

I am happy with my CF sleeve, tightened up my groups nicely in my Impact for a whopping $30. Have a stand alone tuner that I will try if/when I find time, but not a priority after reading the many posts on the topic.

Good luck!

The stand alone tuner might be a good upgrade to the maverick but probably won't be necessary. You an easily do very small HS change to find a harmonic node and with carbon sleeve and carbon tensioner the need will be greatly reduced.

I have a stand alone tuner for my crown only because I can't access the preload screw on the crown no matter which stock options.

Got it! Thanks!

Hmmmm, So the aluminum shroud moderates better than the carbon fiber version. Interesting! Woulda thought just the opposite.

The aluminum is a shroud with space inside. The carbon tensioner has zero space between the carbon and the STX barrel housing so there is no shroud at all, it's purely for stiffening the barrel and completely forgoing any sort of sound moderation.
