FX Boss trigger adjustment and questions

I've owned the Boss for a few months now, and although I love the accuracy (its really amazing), I've never been happy with the trigger. I'd much appreciate feedback from other Boss owners.

The problem has been that there is no resistance at all on the 1st stage. The trigger literally flops backwards and forwards as I tilt the gun up and down. Today I removed the stock and noticed a couple of things: The bright metal pins that hold part of the trigger assembly (A 17 on the Boss schematic) were loose and had partially come out of the housing. I also checked for springs under the trigger wedge but found only set screws. After centering the pins and remounting the stock I noticed the following:

The 'big' discovery was that if I held the cocking arm back for a couple of seconds before returning it to its forward position, the 1st stage now had a nice light resistance, with a nice hold at the 2nd stage, and a clean break. The 1st stage resistance occasionally disappeared after 10-20 sec, back to a free moving 1st stage, but mostly it held. This made me wonder if instead of a spring, the Boss uses some kind of pneumatic trigger for the 1st stage, and its leaking? Sounds crazy, but I don't know how else to explain it.

Its also frustrating the the trigger design is different from that described in the generic FX owners manual, which is useless for expelling how to adjust the Boss trigger. I'm happy with the 2nd stage, but would like to have a consistent 1st stage pull. I'll pst this as well in the Manufacture's forum to see if FX respond.

Regal_US, I'm in the same boat. The first and second stage are so, so light that the first stage blends in with the second. I can sort of find the place where the second stage engages now, but it would be great if it was a bit more clear. And yes, the generic FX manual is useless for adjusting. I haven't tried any adjustments because I don't know what I'd be affecting. I probably just call Jim at Precision Air where I bought it. I imaging he'll know or could point me in the right direction.

I bought my Boss from Precision Air also. Jim is great to do business with. I did send my Boss to AOA to have a Huggett shroud installed. While it was there Steve from AOA called me to tell me the shroud was installed & asked what I thought of the Boss's trigger. I told him that I wanted to adjust it with a longer definite first stage & light crisp break on the 2nd stage. It was extremely light. Great for benchrest but a little to light for hunting in my opinion. I was in the same boat as you are with the owners manual not showing the new trigger. Anyway Steve told me that there wasn't much adjustment to it & that he preferred the older FX trigger. Long story short, Steve tuned & installed an older FX trigger in my Boss at no cost & returned the Boss's original trigger. So if I didn't like his trigger , I could go back to the original. Well Steve nailed the set up. It is exactly how I wanted the trigger set. Give Steve @ AOA & talk to him. I'm sure he can steer you in the right direction.

@Regal_US

I can't even begin to describe just how amazing it is to see and speak to people like Frederick and his son Johan Axelsson from FX, Tony Belas from Daystate, Andrew Huggett, Ted, and so many others. Then there are the ordinary folks like me who just love the sport and share the same common interests all in one place. Anyway, thanks for being understanding and I hope are able to attend a future EBR in the future, You won't regret it.
