FX Crown .25 problem

Hi, tomorrow I decided to swap the .22 barrel for a .25 on my FX Crown. I put a DonnyFL moderator cause I find the gun a bit loud , even in .22. Reg was set on 135 bar , power wheel on max.The first shot gave me 180 ft/s ??? I shot some more pellets and speeds were erratic. Moreover the gun made a curious sound. Mmmhhh….something's going wrong.I removed the shroud and….the air stripper was "exploded" (see pictures). There was a lot of lead and aluminium debris inside the shroud and the moderator showed signs of clipping and internal damages . So, what happened?

First I thougt that the air stripper was made for a .22 cal ; inside diameter is 7,10mm, which looks a bit small , but not sure.The second cause was that the stripper was not screwed thight enough on the barrel , which could cause its bore not in line with the barrel, but I can't check this anymore.

If somebody has an idea of what happened ...I don't know if Krale , the FX dealer, has strippers in stock so now I'm going to my lathe and turn another one.

Apart from this….a great gun

Was the 180 fps pellet the one that did this … or were you shooting a bunch of pellets with the reg set at 135 and max on the power wheel that were chronying 180 fps.

Of the two options you stated, I would think that the stripper not being adequately screwed on or cross threaded would have the highest probability. In your pic, it does looks like there was some kind of problem with the threading at the base of the stripper.

You had a Crown .22 caliber air stripper, trying to shoot .25 caliber pellets through it. You can’t just change the barrel from .22 to .25 only. You would need the .25 barrel kit including pellet probe, barrel/.25 liner, shroud and air stripper. Did you swap out all these items when attempting to switch to .25 caliber? If not... Oops

Yes, I get the complete barrel kit , just unscrew the .22 barrel and pellet probe and put the .25 barrel/shroud unit and probe . Didn't touch anything else. The first pellet was 180fps , the other ones ( 4 or 5) gave a speed between 170 and 300fps. I think the first one crushed the stripper and the others made their way through it, erraticly. In the same time my DonnyFL moderator was badly damaged. A spoiled day .

I already turned another stripper on my lathe , wait the 1/2UNF tap to finish it . Just another day at the office
