Does the crown mk2 have different hammer springs/weights for .177 compared to .22 and so on?
Yes. Took srock off and maxed the adjuster to the point the wheel stopped moving, he’s backed it off quarter turn. It’s to the max! LolAh, now that is a different story. There are many threads here about crown tuning and your situation has come up before.
The mk 2 can run reg pressures as high as 160 bar safely ( not that I do, but nice to know )
When you say your hammer is maxed, are you using the side wheell adjustment or have you adjusted the hammer tension by removing the stock and dialing in more preload via the grub screw?
So I did some experimenting with your numbers, and I’m a little bummed to be honest. Firstly, I found my tin of redesigns to be junk. The SD was all over the place, so I tried some 18gn I had, and BINGO. sd was in the 2.1 range.Hello MadeintheUK, I am a Brand New FX Ctown Mk II owner. After first weekend of Unbelievable Accuracy demonstrated b6 this rifle with Exact Heavies I had to start experimenting. I have been fiddling with the Dials & Reg Pressure a bit this past week with my Chronograph. My goal was to get .22 MDR‘s to fly at Over 900 and still have the Down Side power to shoot JSB Exact Hvy 18.1 between a range of speeds from 870 - 920.
Results are promising and I hope the incredible Accuracy is Still there when I shoot again at range tomorrow.
SETTINGS I Arrived to: REG.= 135bar / Hammer Spring as Yours Is - Max Possible Tension at #24 on Wheel / TX-Port MAX
MRD’s 25g. at 935 fps at #23 and down to 905 at 18 & 19 on Hammer Dial - MAX Port
FX Hybrid 22g. Slug Speeds SAME as MRD’s - MAX Port
Move to MED. TX PORT - JSB Exact Heavy 18.1s run from a Low of about 830 at #1 Hammer to 880 @ #4 and 900 @ #5… I can keep pushing them up over 1,050 fps Before reaching Top Tension, but Too fast I think. / Not interested in Speed.
Really Hoping the MRD’s fly true and still give me spectacular Tiny Groups with the Exact 18.1’s
This Crown II is like bringing my Reloading Bench to the Range…and it Looks Gorgeous in its Nordic Wolf Suit.. I LOVE IT!
Where do I find these washers/spacers you speak of? I looked on the fx USA website for some enlightenment, but I see no washers or spacers. Just the hammer, spring, and guide.I’ve had three new mk2 crowns open in the last few months and all three had slightly different configurations to the hammer spring internals from the factory.
Mine was similar to yours and wouldn’t push 23gr slugs beyond about 880fps and started getting a bit of valve lock beyond 120 bar or so. It had the spring and hammer only.
My friends was a little healthier on power output, so checking that one revealed two of those little washers you get in the impact power kit in there as well - inside the hammer and so acting like a little hammer weight.
Another friends gun, bought a month or two later but I think from the same shipment had the washers but one was in the hammer and the other between the spring and guide, adding to spring tension.
I have no idea why there was this variation. Maybe thanks to a couple of unsupervised factory trainees on a Friday afternoon?
I ended up putting ~10gr weights in all of them and they are now excellent with a very wide range of useable reg pressures and power levels.
I recently tried the crown slug power kit tungsten weight and that thing is just ridiculously heavy - I think 26-27gram. With the reg pressure at 140 and hst on absolute minimum the lowest velocity I could achieve was 930fps with 23gr Zan, but with a 30fps. Possibly due the huge amount of free flight with weak spring tension. Power level 2 on the wheel was already 970fps, about the max this reg pressure could achieve with a 600mm and the shot cycle was already feeling and sounding awful, with a nonexistent shot count. Anyway, something to maybe avoid using unless you’re really planning on dialling the crown up to 11.
