FX Crown/Impact regulator mod tutorial

Well guys. I messed up :(. Max powahhh!!!! Well good news is I found out for you guys that max power for the impact .30 700mm in 44 g is 917-920 fps (85-90fpe with 55 gr.) At 165 bar regulator pressure. Any higher than that and the fps actually goes down due to the hammer spring not being strong enough to smack the valve open. Does anyone know how to mod the hammer spring? I think matt knows how to on southafrica airgunning. Also this was an accident. I don't know if I did damage to the gun or not but I will be chronological it tomorrow. Looks like nothing wrong though :).

Ok so I'm preparing to do this mod on my Crown, and I'm trying to find fitting flat washers for both the "small" and "large" regulator, as I'm not sure which one I have. I just want to have everything ready before I open it up.

The only washer sizes I could find were 8x4,3x0,8mm and 10x5,3x1,0mm. The 8mm one should fit well enough since the inner diameter of the regulator Belleville washers are 4,2mm.

I'm not as sure about the 10mm washer though... Could someone with more knowledge on this confirm whether or not this washer will work, if the case being that I got the "large" type of regulator? Will it work despite the inner diameter being 1,1mm wider than the Belleville washers?

EDIT: Nevermind this post, just found out that the Crowns with serial number 180760 and up have the updated regulator. I have the older gen, so the 8mm washer should do the trick.

This weekend I decided to open up my Crown to perform this mod, hoping to eliminate the reg creep. Once inside the reg chamber, I noticed the belleville washers were already stacked the "right" kind of way. More specifically, there were 19 washers stacked like this; []--- (())(())(())(())(() I guess this tells us that at some point, FX realized that this is the better way to stack the washers. So instead of changing the stack in any way, I just cleaned all parts of the regulator thoroughly, and then put a generous amount of grease on both sides of all the washers, on the other reg parts and o-rings aswell, and then put the gun back together. After firing a few test shots, I noticed the creep had reduced drastically, and now it only creeps about 2-3 bar over a few days, instead of ~10bar. The settling time also improved a bit.

I also want to mention that I had some trouble getting the breech o-ring to seal the reg properly after putting it back together, I had it apart 3 times adjusting and lubing the o-ring before it sealed properly. I simply tried topping of the air cylinder from 200 bar to about 245 bar, while air was escaping through the reg vent hole, and just as I unplugged the scba tank it sealed up, and now everything works as it should.

Hopefully someone can make use of this information.

Nice observation Sonix! Please may I ask when you purchased yours? Also what cal and what reg pressure did your gun come configured with?

I got mine in the beginning of June this year, altough since I live in Sweden, I'm guessing it had been on the shelf for a few months (not many people buy airguns of this "level" here).

It's in .25 and from the beginning it was set to sub 10 joule (about 7.5 ft/lbs), so the reg was set to something around 55-60 bar iirc.

Now I have it set to 130 bar, but probably going to set it to about 140 bar when I get to the more intricate parts of tuning the gun.

I have been talking to Johan Axelsson at the last IWA show, showed him this tutorial on my phone, and he was like: "ahh, so you are Weatherby?" 😃 He was aware of this thread.

He was already talking about a redesigned regulator at that time, but they were still waiting for the correct size belleville washers I.I.R.C.

Could well be that they started using a different stack in the meanwhile before the new regulators were introduced to make the "old" regulators more adjustable and responsive..

Anyway, it's nice to see the double stack used in a production run, it works definitely better than the single stack IMO :)

On my impact x 25 Cal there is only 11 bv washer. Is that correct or am I missing some. I'm guessing new impact has only 11? I'm sure I didn't drop any when I took it out.

You'll likely have the latest regulator, it is a bit different in size compared to the previous models. The newer regulators have thicker/bigger BV washers, and can handle a wider pressure range.

People who know me never would have thought, but my Impact X regulator is still stock 😄 

I just never felt the need to take it apart, it works flawless. (Just about all regulators will creep ever so slightly over time)

You'll likely have the latest regulator, it is a bit different in size compared to the previous models. The newer regulators have thicker/bigger BV washers, and can handle a wider pressure range.

I bought my impact like a month ago. I believe it's the one with the amp reg. But even with the new reg it creeps overnight. I usually just dry fire 1-2 to get it back to normal. I give this mod a try, just use the 11 bv washers that was in it. Didnt have any flat washer, so just double stack the bv washes. Will see if it holds tomorrow.
