FX Crown or the new FX crown VP

I have basically decided on either one of these to purchase in the coming few weeks. I am seeing here about the difference of around 700 dollars between these two models. That is quite a difference and I am wondering just where this much difference lies. About the only differences I can tell is that with the more expensive crown I am getting a carbon fiber air cylinder and a very attractive stock, as to the VP having an aluminum cylinder and what looks like a much cheaper stock.

If these are the only two differences between the two I will probably go with the VP.

Just wondering if anyone has an opinions as to which one they would purchase. Really, If I had the extra cash I would not hesitite to go with the Crown, but also I am trying to save me a few dollars.

Exactly that, bottle & stock, you could still go with the synthetic stock and have the carbon bottle, which saves about 1LB in weight over the ali bottle.

From my understanding only different is the air cylinder, With the same synthetic stock VP is only $250 cheaper ($1350 vs $1600)

Looks like UA got VP for $1150 now , so if gun is to heavy for you with aluminum bottle you can upgrade to carbon fiber one for $300 and have two bottles and some $ in your packet

Before purchasing the VP model check to see if it is new or old stock. There could be a difference in what barrel it has - original STX or newer (stiffer) Superlite STX barrel.

I have the VP in .22 with the 600mm barrel. The tank is the only difference. Metal instead of CF, for about a 1lb and 20cc difference. Synthetic stock is very nice to the touch, comfortable, and solid. Mechanically, the guns are identical. For me the 1lb was worth the price difference. And you can always buy a CF tank later and have a spare for more shots.

I had the same questions earlier on another model and i called the FX guys one of the guys sat on the phone with me and talked through the 2 models (I guess he was just working and didnt mind talking) Wasn't trying to talk me into the more expensive model but it was amazing really gave me some professional feedback and I made my decision.

I have to admit that I don’t know much about FX, and I don’t follow the brand too closely.

That said, it appears that the Crown had updates when they switched from the dovetail to picatinny rail. If this is the distinctive measure between the two, then the picatinny has a more secure barrel mount in the breech. If you place close attention to the breech in photos you can see the difference in how the barrels are secured.

If I were you... I would spend several hundred more and opt for the more “robust” design. What’s a few hundred more when you are spending this much? I see a difference of about $450 for the synthetic stock, not to mention that you get the cf bottle with the higher priced model. I noticed this on UTA’s website.

Only the CONTINUUM with the 2 barrel set has the PIC rail atop the action, the VP and all other Crowns are still currently DT, the CONTINUUM comes standard with the synthetic stock and a fitted case, you have to order it with a laminate stock anyways.

Yes you are correct regarding the Continuum coming with both the barrel set and picatinny rail, but I see that UTA sells a version of the Crown with the picatinny rail which is not listed as a Continuum model. It is referred to the Generation 2. This is what I am referring to. I want to reiterate that this is my observation, I am not an FX guru.

I have the new VP Crown the only difference is the bottle you can tell the newest version has 4 screws to hold the barrel and a picatinny rail thats what i have.

It maybe listed as a "compact" there have been some appearing recently, I think it is FX's intention to move completely to a pic rail eventually anyways.

I recently bought an FX Crown VP from Airguns of Utah and they told me upfront that the VP had the dovetail and different barrel mount. They also said to be careful about moderator weigh with this mounting system. Also it doesn't come threaded for a moderator but the regular Crown does. I talked to a guy named Mike there and he was very helpful and patient with my rookie questions. I'm very happy with my purchase and actually don't feel I need a moderator on it. It is pretty quiet with the shroud extended out.I got the .25 cal. and came set up at 900fts with JSB 25gr. pellets. I'm a lefty and the synthetic stock fits me great. To me the gun feels pretty light even with the aluminum bottle when compared to my Bullboss I've been shooting. I was on a limited budget a it worked out great for me and would do it again.

I ordered my vp crown in .177 cal and i requested a picatinny rail and 4 screws holding the barrel in place and a threaded end so that i could put a moderator on it. Mine was ordered from FX since there were no .177 in USA it took right at about 2 months + to come in it had synthetic stock just like i wanted. The dealer told me that FX would not send him any more like this until all of the crown base style were sold. They also said that when they are all gone all of the crowns will have a picatinny rail and 4 screws for the barrel. FX did not say how many of the dovetail / 2 screw on the barrel that they had left but they are not making any more of that style.
