Awhile back I found out that my neighbor was into airgunning so I brought him over some extra stuff that I had laying around (Yong Heng Compressor, Assortment of Pellets, and a DonnyFL Tatsu). After gifting him all of this he asked if there was anyway he could repay me. I joking said, "nope, knowing that you don't have to handpump that Maurader everyday is payment enough! Haha"
From that day on we became pretty good friends and I would drop by his shop whenever I passed by and saw him out in is shop. I learned that he had been a Machinist for over 30 years and had knowledge of a lot of things that I am interested in so I would often get in trouble with my wife when 1 hour turned into 4 when I told her it was just going to be a quick 15 minute visit (she knows better lol)
One night I dropped by his shop and had an idea that he might be interested in helping me out with. I brought over a DonnyFL Emperor/Extension Tube and told him I would like to make an Over-Barrel Moderator that can incorporate a 3mm Thick Carbon tube for tension. He said, "welp, let's do it!", and later that night we had a working moderator that did the job very well on my Impact with a 700mm Barrel installed.
Fast Forward to this year, I wanted to make a lighter version of this project, but after learning and working at his shop I really wanted to have my own lathe and complete the project on my own. So, I bought a lathe and moved it into my basement workshop (still building a lathe bench so she's sitting on a dolly currently patiently waiting to make chips).
I took my original Over-Barrel Moderator and thought it needed to be lighter so I decided to use Carbon Fiber for the main tube and Aluminum for the End Caps/Internal Air Stripper on this version. After spending a night drawing out the plan and ordering the material I have to hurry and get the Lathe Bench built so when it all gets here I'll be ready to start!
So long story short:
This upcoming Squirrel Season will be an FX Crown fitted with a Custom 475mm Gold Barrel, 3mm Carbon Tension Sleeve, and Carbon Fiber Over-Barrel Moderator.
