FX FX DRS Tactical Moderators

Hey ya’ll newbie here to the land of PCP’s. I’ve just ordered the FX DRS Tactical 500mm in .22 and I had a few questions:
  1. For those that have purchased it, how loud is it? I believe the general consensus is that due to the short barrel design it is not backyard friendly.
  2. What moderators are you using that make it the quietest ? I believe that the short barrel @ 30FPE-50FPE complicates this.
  3. I have narrowed my moderator selections based on YouTube and other reviews to be: STO FLAX, Weirauch XL/XLK, Edgun BEHEMOTH, Donny FL Yokozuna/Sumo. I just don’t want to spend $ constantly purchasing new moderators.
My primary usage will be backyard plinking and occasional pest control. Appreciate any general advice too.

I have used the STO Falx and Pugio on my DRST 25 500. The Falx quiets it nicely, the Pugio doesn't take out the "crack".
The 25 500 is quite loud without a moderator. 22 LR loud in my opinion.

STO Falx (moderate flow core) They have a flow calculator but the moderate can be used up to .30 cal. My Maverick .22 at 50 fpe was on the verge of low into moderate. It’s was tuned good not wasting air. All you could hear is the hammer and then the pellet hitting the trap.

I’m going to throw it on my .25 Ghost when it gets here.

I don’t have experience with the products you mentioned but I will share my experience with moderators.

I have a 45 FTLB FX Crown and 2 moderators. A huggett snipe (6.7”x1.22”) and a DonnyFL Shogun (8”x1.6”).

I was mostly satisfied with the snipe but I got the Shogun as an experiment to see how much quieter it would be.

The Shogun is considerably larger than the Snipe but only slightly more effective.

I’d describe the noise level of my Crown with the snipe as approximately as loud as a high powered springer. With the Shogun it’s closer to a mid level springer.

Long story short, don’t expect a whisper quiet gun no matter what moderator you get. Bigger is usually better but there are diminishing returns. When it comes to brands, I doubt there is any significant, real world difference between similarly constructed moderators.

This is just my experience and opinion with a sample size of 2. Hope it helps.

Yes, I am getting the feel that bigger + chambers/material liners generally means better sound suppression.

I have the Weihrauch XL on my DRS. It is the only moderator that makes it backyard friendly.

I have tested DonnyFL Sumo, Atec cmm6, SAK, and Hogan Decimeater.

I swear by Weihrauch XL on a pellet tune, the DRS is a pleasure to shoot
Thanks for your recommendation. i can’t find an XL in the US. I can only see an XLK which is smaller but hoping would have the same sound moderation as XL. Thoughts ?

STO are not just a hollow can with a felt liner.
The Silent Thunder Ordnance uses a gas diode to slow the air before it exits the barrel.
From my experience using both STO moderators, they improve accuracy as well as quieting the shot because of the way the gas diode diverts air from the projectile.
Looks like a well thought out design. I have always been skeptical about the empty cans or felt lining.
I’ve emailed them I suspect they would recommend either the standard or moderate flow for my .22
Do you have a pic of your DRST with the FALX?

My Sumo is still kinda loud, the STO actually works.
