Tuning FX Harmonic Barrel Tuner Compact (500mm) Issues

Hello everyone , after waiting for them to come back in stock at Utah Airguns I was able to pickup a barrel tuner for my M3 compact .

First impressions are it is really hard to turn the weighted portion. I'm sure they did this to make sure it didn't move from where you set it but it is a struggle, especially on the compact with the bottle right there too . That brings me to my next point , the weight is ever so slightly sitting on the bottle . I don't know if that makes a difference but I feel like it kind of negates the whole purpose of the device. Anyone else run into these issues or have any input on the issue? I tried to get a picture as best I could .

Other than shooting with the crony in the indoor pellet trap I haven't been able to take it out yet , its too cold in PA right now.

Crap. I got one coming for my m3 compact. Not only that i was hoping to get a 480cc 300bar tank under my barrel also. :/

Yeah I was hoping to put a 480 tank on mine as well . With the current issue looks like its a no go with the tuner ....

I also reached out to FX support to see what they have to say.

My only hope is the aftermarket 480cc tank is smaller diameter. I think its like 62mm.

Anyone know the fx 300cc or 480cc tank diameters?

I can comment only for the thread stiffness, my was stuck completely. I asked the dealer what to do they said just turn it a bit harder...and this how the entire metal piece separated from CF tube. (Probably in the fabrication process they just pack it too quickly and the glue got in between threads during transport, or something like that)

And I am actually very happy why it separated, I drop the entire metal piece into aceton, submerged completely, and this how I learned the multiple internal parts . I clened them lubed the threads and glue it back to the CF tube.

Turns smooth like a butter now.

Well that’s disappointing . I have come to expect a lot with FX products and for the most part I have been very happy . But first the carbon barrel sleeve had to be re worked to fit and now this tuner which is practically useless at this point .

I would highly suggest you screw it out until it no longer touches and start from there! You will find a decent node in the first rotation, maybe not the best one, but a good one. Good luck!

That is screwed all the way out , well at least until it hits the suppressor .

Well that sucks! Sorry, it looked like you were at the start? My bad.

I would tell FX or where you bought it from that you want a refund it hits the bottle which is no good and it turns hard to begin with

I have reached out to both Utah Airguns and FX . I am confident that they will make it right . I am really hoping there is a solution because I was really looking forward to tuning with it.

Keep us posted. Mine will be here by early next week.

Seems to be some fitment issues with the compact.

My compact came with the shroud not tightened all the way. I initially thought it was negligence. After looking at my gun and reading this forum i think maybe it was left loose on purpose as the shroud was touching my valve knob after I tightened it. I backed it off just enough to not touch. However it does limit how far my valve knob can come out. (its 4 lines right now)

I noticed the shroud and valve knob issue last night too after investigating the tuner issue . I'm kind of wishing I went with the standard version now given the fitment issues I have had thus far .

I will updated the post when I receive a response from FX or Utah Airguns

Well initial response from Utah Air was not promising. I will wait for things to develop before I post publicly here.

That's not encouraging. I have spent a lot of moneys with them in last couple months. Its not like we bought the wrong thing on our own accord. we purchased something thats supposed to be for our specific model. I hope they do ya right.

I'm still holding out hope that the aftermarket cf tanks will allow for a better fit. There are pics of the 700cc bottles clearing moderator and the larger tank on the 300bar bottle thread. the 480cc bottle is a mm in diameter larger than the 700cc one tho.

If it doesn't fit and ua doesn't do right then my .30 barrel setup will be purchased somewhere else. im not one to bad mouth a company (cant complain about my interactions with UA recently) i let my money do the talking.

I wont even try to install the tuner till i get the other tanks. valves came today so im ready as soon as they get here.

Let me know how the tank change works out for you . That would be a great solution since I was planning on going that route anyways .

I agree , most of all my interactions with UA have been better than great , It not an easy issue issue to explain so I sent over some pictures . I will say that after some more time today the stiffness of the rotation issue is getting slightly better . I almost think its an interference issue with the weight and the epoxy or coating on the carbon fiber . As I work it back and forth I can see it leaving a white or dull spot on the carbon tube , like its cutting through the epoxy . I put a small drop of silicon oil on it and will continue to work it and see if it continues to improve.

Thats the thread Where i found out about the 300bar bottles. There's a pic of a gun with the harmonic tuner and moderator clearing the 700cc tank...on the 3rd or 4th page i believe. Fingers are crossed hoping the same for the 480cc bottle.

The alibaba company (alsafe) has various sizes. You will have to buy valves separate but i went direct to fx for those. I think the 480cc 300 bar tank was only 98 dollars plus shipping. shipping was a lil steep but i ordered a 700cc bottle also in prep for my .30 conversion later this year. Valves were 59 i believe. I got 2 bottles with valves for the price of one 580cc 300bar bottle basically.

let us know how it goes, and ill do the same!

From what i can gather from the alsafe site the 480cc is 62mm and the 700cc is 61mm. I dont really have anything to accurately measure my 300cc fx bottle ( and no venders/fx list the diameter) so im just waiting on my alsafe gear to find out. The diameter isn't standard across there products. it varies from what i can gather from their site.

Anyone happen to know the diameter of the fx 300cc bottle?

FX definitely needs to come through with some kind of fix. Their putting their venders in a bad position. Even the regular shroud needs a spacer on the compact.

I have a buddy that owns a machine shop. I’m going to stop by tomorrow for him to have a look . I’m thinking we can turn the outside diameter of the weight down slightly to make it work. I don’t know much about machining so I don’t know if there is a reliable way to do that or not but I’ll find out tomorrow!

The turning issue was an interface issue with the carbon tube . After some 200 grit sandpaper it turns pretty smoothly now . There was a definite ridge on the tube stopping it from turning freely . Very similar to the carbon liner I received that wouldn’t fit .
