FX Impact Compact vs EdGun R5M Matador....just curious

My Eddy in .22 with BAT Moderator

This has become my all around gun , it did not start out that way, but the more i shot it, the more we became one....

I have not owned the Impact compact but i have had the Impact ,as well as several other FX guns, still have a couple.

The Edgun's are Very durable guns, one might say a " working man's " gun, No Fluff, No Foo Foo , they look and feel " mechanical " , built like a tank and they just do what they are supposed to do , Shoot .....and they do that Very well ...

I won't go into too much detail on my FX experiences, lets just say they are " Dainty " compared to some gun's .. I can say that , like i said i have , and still own a couple..

I guess it all depends on what you want as a buyer , Fluff, Foo Foo, Gadgets, Widgets, etc .. The FX is your gun... If you want a Shooter/Basher then i would Most Definitely say go R5M..

Both guns are nice PCP’s I have an Edgun r5m 22cal and they are truly tanks . I also have an impact mk2 25cal, but not the compact. With impact I would have to say that you get more shots 28 and a better trigger, the Edgun shorter after considering that the gun already has a built in sound suppressor and nice features. I will have to say that you cannot go wrong with any one of them and I believe one is as accurate as the other. Hope that helps

I chose the Matador over the FX Impact. Mine is a 22

Reasons why:

  • Solid build and already know the Edgun quality since I have a Leshiy
  • 2 magazines are free with the gun - no extra charge gimmicks
  • I like the wood stock

Now my Matador I got used and it came with a leak as well as badly tuned. The shop must have never tested it because it would not cycle rounds from the magazine because someone turned the hammer spring tension all the way over counter-clockwise which causes this symptom. The shop didn't even help me work on either problem so I called up EdGun West and Brian emailed me 2 times and we had it fixed in less than an hour.

I've owned multiples of both and both are excellent in their own way. If you want a rifle you can tinker with from an accessories, multiple configuration and tuning perspective, its the Impact. If you want a solid, consistent and boringly dependable tool, its the R5M. I have sold all of my R5M's mainly because I have the Lelya 2.0 and its similar enough (but shorter, which I prefer) to the R5M to make it redundant and expendable. If money or room in the safe aren't issues, own both.

Right now, it is going have to be one of the other Impact or Matador R5M. Or I wait another year to get one of them. One of the reasons I bought the Impact was the multi caliber, but I realize now once it is tuned to a pellet/slug, don’t mess with it, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

When I received the Taipan it got me thinking about durability and ruggedness, and from what everyone says, hands down the Matador is a beast and will stand up to lots of abuse over the Impact. And so, I will think hard about this, but I might be replacing my Impact Compact .22 with the Matador R5M in .22 cal. I am always in the end about function over form.
