FX Impact M3 .357, in the search for more umph

Well I turned the hammer spring to 8 and the gun sounds much better. Just shot groups and the crazy thing is now 3/4-1/2 inch 10 shot groups at 50 yards. I might drop the reg a touch more, at 16Pw it was hitting 905fps. I might go to 130 bar and try to get a touch better consistency. I didn’t check fps but it went from baseball size 5shot groups to 1/2-3/4 in. Trying to decide if I need to mess with the valve adjuster.

Another update.

Today I shot the gun with the 1st reg back installed. It did not help. It appeared as if I lost 20 fps from when the reg was deleted.

I am still confused how I was able to achieve 975 fps so easily before at 185 to 190 bar and now 920. The only mod I can think of that I did was the huma barrel tensioner and clean my barrel.

I ordered another Huma spring to see if they lose compression and power over time. Plus I can rule that out as a cause. If they do lose power than I may order a heavier hammer weight to see if the compensation will help.

I also noticed that today while shooting the guns accuracy seems to improve drastically in the 860 to 890 range. As you go past 900, it begins to open up the groups. Back it down a little and pin point accuracy starts to develop. I have more 93 grain NSA slugs on the way.
When I got home, I reinstalled the factory valve adjuster spring as I haven't noticed a huge difference between the Huma and stock one. If anything the stock one appears to not blow the small oring on the valve as easily and allows more adjustability.

I still have a lot of work to do when it comes to testing. Another thing I noticed is with the Huma valve adjuster spring installed and max hammer spring tension, power is the same whether the macro wheel is on 16 or 12. It slightly change on 11. This may indicate I need more hammer weight or the spring only compresses so much to reach peak power. Macro wheel 16 is 100% compression. I don't know what 12 is, but it is less.

I reached out to Bullet Central because supposedly they have a spring for the M3 too. I don't know any specs on it yet or if it is more powerful than the Huma one.

My new Huma hammer spring arrived today. It re-confirmed my theory of the previous one shrinking in length. The new spring measures just under 57mm at 56.9 or so. The old one was now showing around 54.1 to 54.2mm. Bear in mind factory oem is 52mm.

My thought is this may be contributing to the loss of power. I will have to confirm with a velocity test soon. If so, the Huma one may either settle or not like full compression as it may weaken the spring over time.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I am all ears. I may have a heavier and longer hammer made to prevent full compression from ever happening.

7Green, I am also using the Huma 57mm spring (#1308) and I also just recently noticed a 20 fps drop (1070 to 1050) on my velocity. I'm only running 170 on the regulator so I could see why your drop would be more at 180 or 190 reg. I have one used spring that I took out of my MII a year ago that measures 55.37mm that has shrunk over time. I will remove the one presently in the gun and see how much it has shrunk to verify that it is the cause of my velocity drop.

7Green, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I was wondering your guns specs and tune. I just bought a FX Impact M3 700mm .22 caliber. I had purchased a .35 caliber barrel change kit, which for .35 cal it comes with a new (hammer and spring?). Anyways, I just put the barrel and pellet probe in and shot it as is without replacing the hammer/spring. Anyways, I was shooting 81 grain JSB exact pellets and at max setting ( knob above tank at 5.5, 1st reg at ~160, second reg at ~135/140, macro “wheel” at 16 and micro “thumb knob” at 5. All I could eke out was 750 fps (I used a crono). After seeing your power Destiny thread I noticed everyone else seemed to be getting 850-900 ish FPS with the .35 cal 81 grain JSBs. So I called FX and talked to Benjamin. He said he thought I needed to replace my current hammer/spring with the one out of the .35 caliber barrel kit, he said it was a heavier hammer that was meant to give more air/power. He also stated that if I did switch out the hammer, then I would still be able to shoot .22 cal just fine. I had to ask then why all FX Impact M3’s don’t ship with the .35 caliber hardware installed? It seems really silly to me to pay so much for a gun, then have to turn around and work on it right after purchasing it. Anyway, today I spent the day replacing the components. It took me a long time, but I finally got it all running…kinda. I now only get about 650 FPS at all the same settings as I mentioned above. I did notice that my macro and micro adjustments are a little off. The macro wheel will go to 16, but if I turn it more, it will click over to 01 and make the micro thumb knob jump. I don’t know if that is normal behavior as I did not mess with the macro wheel while shooting .22cal. And I have also noticed that my micro wheel will not go all the way to 5 now. Basically I can go to like 4.5-4.8, but if I go higher than that toward 5 then my gun won’t cock. I can still shuck the bolt, but it won’t catch in the rear position. These are just thinks I have noticed, I don’t know if any of this is normal since I am new to the FX Impact M3. Anyway, any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I bought the gun from pyramid air, but since I worked on it and have shot it I don’t know if they would take a return or exchange at all. I could also try to send it to FX for service, but I don’t know how long all of that would take. I have really bad (in all honesty terminal) cancer and I am trying to enjoy my airgun as much as I can, not have it in the shop a month after buying it. So I don’t know what I’ll do. To be honest I feel like if I had not have messed with the .35 caliber then I would be golden. In .22 the gun was doing great and it was a laser. The only reason I wanted to do .35 cal was to kill a deer, then after that I was going to go strait back to .22 cal or possibly .25, but really prolly just .22. Anyway, I just feel frustrated and lost.

One thing I can think of off the top of my head the c1 setting the piece you remove to change the hammer when reinstalled the tip of it to the frame should measure 6-6.5 mm if it's not set right it will mess up your speed

Ok, lots of questions and no need to get frustrated, it is all pretty simple.

Yes, you will need a heavier hammer setup to open the valve at higher pressures. 135 to 145 bar should be plenty to throw 81 grain pellets in the 850 to 900fps range.

You also should only have 2 rubber balls in the valve adjuster knob.

What weight hammer assembly (hammer + hammer weight) are you using? All together in grams. A picture would help of you assembly.
