I am a new member of the AIRGUN NATION forums and I am also a newer owner of the FX IMPACT M3. So please take it easy on me if I don't post something right or if I call something by the wrong name or something. I just found out I have really bad (as in terminal) cancer about 6 months ago, so I bought the FX Impact M3 with the 700mm .22cal config. The FX IMPACT M3 is new, so it has the "power block", I also installed the saber tactical 20 moa upper rail (TRS) Standard and the Saber Tactical Low Profile Full Arca Swiss Rail. These are my only after market adjustments I have made so far. I am also using the ATN THOR 4, 640, 2.5-25x Thermal Scope (as of right now). And I also purchased the .25cal, .30cal, and .35cal STX barrel kits for the FX IMPACT M3, incase I wanted to change things up. It was only after purchasing these barrel kits that I realized that there is a separate "Heavy Slug Barrel Kit" in 800mm for .22cal coming on sale soon. I am very interested in this, but I am hesitant to change over to this because it is my understanding that if I did put that "Heavy Slug Barrel Kit" on the FX IMPACT M3, then I would also have to install the "Heavy Slug Hammer/spring Kit" to make my hammer heavier or whatnot for the heavier slugs to get more air and from what I understand after you do this, your FX IMPACT M3 is only set up to shot heavy slugs from this point out and I would not be able to go back and shoot the 18grain .22cal JSB's with the "Heavy Slug Hammer/Spring Kit" installed. Which is a bummer, I like shooting the .22 cal 18 -25 grain pellets in more urban type areas, so I don't want to get the "Heavy Slug Hammer/Spring Kit" just yet, do to the fact that I don't want to pigeonhole myself into just shooting heavy slugs. Anyways, enough with the preface, on to the main post.
I have just purchased FX IMPACT M3 about 3 weeks ago or so. And let me tell you, I am very very impressed. As far as I am aware, mine is a new model, meaning that it has the "power block". Other than the "power block", I am not aware of any upgrades that my FX IMPACT M3 has (I mean heavy slug liners or heavier hammer... ect.). Right now I have the STX (or maybe its known as the superior barrel) on it in .22cal 700mm. I know it shoots 18.13gr JSB Exacts like a dream @ 890fps. I have also tuned it to shoot the 25gr JSB redesigns, but I had to turn my 2nd (back/ under the stock) regulator to 110bar (1st reg is at 150-160 depending on temperature) to achieve an FPS with the 25gr JSB Redesigns @ 950FPS, which is what I read they shot good at. Any advice on the 25grain redesigns would be appreciated, as I would like to acheive the best accuracy with these with the best shot count, going from a 300 plus shot count with the 18grains to a 100 shot count with the 25grains was a bummer. And also I was hoping to not have to tune my second regulator to go from the 18 grains to the 25 grains.
18 grain JSB Exacts .22cal:
knob above tank= 1 turn out from the 4th line, i know the manual says default max setting says 1.5 turns out from 4th line to get max (default) setting, I can do this, but I thought it would be nice to have some adjustability.
Airgun Bar = 250
knob above tank = 5
1st Reg = ~150 depending on the temp, higher temps seem to take it up to about 160, lower temps can take it down to 140
2nd reg = 70
wheel (macro) = 16 (although after tuning I think it would make more since to have it on 8 to have a better range of adjustment if I change pellets)
thumb knob(micro) = 10 clicks going from 2 toward 3 , so a little under 2 1/2 i think
FPS with this tune for 18.13grain JSB Exacts = 890, with basically a 892.93333 average out of 15 shots.
25 grain JSB redesigns .22cal:
Airgun bar = 250
knob above tank = 5
1st reg = ~150 depending on the temp, higher temps seem to take it up to about 160, lower temps can take it down to 140
2nd reg = 130
wheel (macro) = 16
Thumb knob (micro) = 4 clicks to 4 1/2, so going from 4 to 4 1/2 it takes 4 clicks to get to 4 1/2
FPS with this tune for 25grain JSB redesigns = 950FPS
Any advice with this .22cal , 25grain JSB redesign tune would be appreciated. I thought that I would be able to tune the gun to shoot the 18.1gr JSB exacts at a lower tune (still shooting them at 890fps, cuz that seems to be the sweet spot), then just use the tank knob, wheel, and thumb knob to get the .22 cal 25grain JSB redesign tune @ 950FPS (or whatever FPS makes them shoot the most accurate out to 100 yards and beyond, was hoping to be able to stretch the redesigns to may 120 -150 yards if possible).
I know all of this was not in the title of the post, but I thought I would ask, I can make a new post if necessary for the above info. This is my first post so please be patient and I am new to the FX Impact M3 and AIRGUN NATION.
Now for the title questions.
I want to shoot a deer this year with the FX IMPACT M3. I live in Kentucky and it is legal here to shoot a deer, during gun season with a .35 or above caliber air rifle. I have at least 500 each of the .35cal 81grain Predator Polymag Hunting pellets with the polymer tips. I also have 500 each of the NSA (Nielsen Specialty Ammo) 93grain hollow point slugs. I also have about 300 of the .35cal 81grain JSB's, but I didn't plan to use these for deer hunting. All of the pellets and slugs mentions above should be in the .357cal category.
Anyway, with the above pellets and slugs does anyone have tunes and especially FPS's that shoot the most accurate with the most energy. I have the 800mm barrel in .35cal. It is not the heavy slug barrel, it is just the STX or as I have also heard it called the "Superior" barrel. I do not have the heavy slug kit for the hammer either. So I do not know if this will effect my standing with the 93grain NSA slugs. If I need to shoot the 81grain Polymags I believe that will be fine. I plane on shooting possibly out to 100 yards max with the poly's or slugs, but to be honest I think I would feel more comfortable staying within 50 yards or less, since I am not familiar with the killing power of the air gun. Any tunes would be appreciated and especially the FPS that these ammos shoot best at, because it I know that I have a chronograph and can tune accordingly.
This will be my first barrel change (going to the .35 cal from the .22 cal) so any advice on this part would be great. I mostly wonder these things:
1) Do I need to install a new pellet plunger (the thing that puts the pellet in the barrel) since I am moving from .22cal to .35cal
2) How to I know the barrel is in there correctly, such as any torque specs or alignment tips to make sure the pellet hole or the slug hole is properly aligned for best performance.
3) Anything else I need to know about changing out barrels? I have at least one magazine for each barrel I have .22,.25,.30,and.35 so that should be ok.
Also, besides changing out the barrels is there anything else I should know NOT to do with my FX Impact M3 as not to damage it. Such as if I adjusted the 1st regulator pressure (because right now t=my garage is at 71 degrees and the 1st regulator has gone up to the point that the left side of the needle is touching 160 and the needle is kinda more toward 170, i feel like this could be a bit too high, but at this temp if I let my gun set over night it goes that high, during normal shooting conditions outside (since it is colder right now) I feel it stays more in the 150 range or lower. But if I need toa adjust the 1st regulator, do I dry fire the gun after taking the tank off to expel the air out of the second regulator before adjusting the first regulator or not? Is that a no no or is it the proper way? Also, It is better to try and keep the 1st and second regulators within 30 bar of each other or is it bad to do that? I heard you want to keep them that way, but maybe I mis understood, because of the default tunes in the manual I do not understand the 30 bar between regulators thing. Also, what is the max fill of the tank/ air gun itself? I have the big tank and my air gun regulator goes to 300 bar, but I have only been filling it to 250bar. And are there any things that you should avoid at all cost, such as certain regulator pressures or certain pressures on certain regulators to watch out for and never fire your gun at. Because I have seen " Never fire your FX IMPACT M3 below regulator pressure" but I do not understand what that means. I assumed it meant never fire below 150bar on the tank/airgun regulator, but I was not for certain.
I used to work on medical equipment before I got the cancer, like the big stuff (MRI's, CT's, PET, and Ultrasound) so I feel like my mechanical knowledge is pretty firm. But I am not too savvy with pneumatics, since there was not much of that in my job, and I am fairly new to the airgun world, I had a Benjamin Marauder Field and Target with the nice barrel for about a year before I got this FX IMPACT M3. And the chemo kinda messes with the brain, so I am a bit slower than I once was, but I do feel that I can understand anything with these airguns given the right amount of time and guidance.
I will try to attach files of my current .22cal 25grain JSB redesign tune and my gun setup for all that are interested.
