Fx impact m3 compact .25 Slugs

Good day. Fairly new to the pcp air guns just got my self an impact m3 compact 500mm. Mostly used for shooting Columbia’s ground squirrels and target. I’m wanting to try slugs for a little more hitting power. Am I crazy to try shooting slugs out of a 500mm barrel ? Either out of the stx superior, or should I upgrade to the stx heavy.

thanks in advance.

The 500mm Heavy liner is kinda pointless imo. You would have to spend a lot of money on power upgrades and really push your rifle hard to get decent speeds out of the heavy slugs the liner will like. If I were you I would stick with the 500mm STX and try some light for caliber slugs. If you can get Nielsens where you are I would start there. They have shot well in 100% of my liners and several rifles so far. Try the 26-29grain slugs and just get as much velocity as you can with the best accuracy. You can also try the FX Hybrids and the JSB Knockouts, both have done pretty well for us in a handful of setups. And just to keep your expectations realistic you might not ever find a slug or speed that does well in your setup, lots of people can attest to that. And I would not get my hopes up that any combo will be as accurate at short ranges when compared to pellets. Seems most people get better groups 50yds and closer with pellets, but the slugs will do a better job maintaining group size at further distance.

My .25cal compact 500mm shoot 26gr pellet group well at 100yards. Recently upgraded to STX slug liner 1:16 twist rate few days ago and shoot with hybrid slug 26gr speed at 955fps grouping well up to 50yrds but, after 50-60yrds grouping start to open and point of impact scatter every where......... I lower the speed to 890 fps and my grouping start to tighter again. My result is not there yet, in the next couple of day when the weather is getting better I will tune it again to get better result. I believe that Hybrid slug may not like shooting at very high speed.
