FX Impact M3 vs. CZ 457 .22LR - How close are we getting?

I think the OP’s thread was originally focused on ‘ how close is the top level Impact against a CZ 457.’ My guess is that you were focused on accuracy vs. total cost of ownership.

I will say that a CZ 457 is a very good .22 LR but there are some really nicer .22LR’s that DO compete against top notch ( in your case FX airguns) air guns. My suggestion is that a high end custom RF would out score the FX MK3 at 50 yards scoring wise! I’m ready, bombs away…

Do you think a high end air gun can effectively outshoot / out score a high end RF at 50 yards match scoring and do it consistently?

I paid $450 for my Tikka T1X, couple brick of SK+ Standard+ for $5.65 a box and couple bricks of SK Rifle match for $7.00 a box. Yes was before the big COVID shortage hit and prices drove up but still. Proven Sub MOA 10 shot groups at 80yds which is furthest on paper. Easily averages MOA for sure or better.

Now you are close power wise yes. But price wise not quite there. Basically with a $2200 airgun vs $450 .22lr I have $1750 worth I can buy just ammo. Which when I bought my ammo my SK+ would have bought 15k rounds. I don't even shoot 500 in a year likely. But I don't shoot much compared to alot of people. Maybe 2000 pellets a year at that. Nor do I need to travel to a place to shoot my .22lr. Have lots of places on our farm to shoot.

While comparisons can be made, there 2 very different things still. I enjoy both for what they are. And enjoy shooting my airguns with pellets and .22lr for "slugs".

Also not the best thing airguns are getting so close to .22lrs. Airguns can easily be purchased online with no background checks or anything. The more the boundaries are pushed the closer we are to airguns eventually falling under the same restrictions as firearms.

I agree with Dairyboy, it may not be wise to compare the power and accuracy of a HIGH POWER slug shooting air gun to a .22 R.F. “ALL OVER YOUTUBE”.

I like shooting my delivered to the front door “pellet” gun in my back yard!
You and your sponsors may want to think about this? They stand to loose a lot of U.S. market share.

Oh, and I if I have to go to the Range it surely won’t be with my HIGH POWERED SLUG shooting air rifle. It will be with my CZ .22 and CZ .177hmr.

I don’t see any way that an air rifle will credibly beat a good .22LR firearm. Certainly not at similar price levels. Given the difference in accessory costs I know that the ammo difference will likely not make up the huge discrepancy. If one shoots huge amounts of pellets, then you are not going to be hand pumping your PCP, nor are you likely to be using an inexpensive compressor. You’ll probably have a $1500+ compressor as well as a SCBA tank, which means more $$$.

For me though, the big difference is that I can shoot my air rifles at home. My .22 rifles (and I do have a few…) I can only shoot at the range, for both noise reasons and due to the travel/range of a bullet. Even the ones which have threaded barrels or adapters for my suppressor deliver just too much potential for trouble if I were to miss my backstop/target for some reason. Does this happen often? Well, it hasn’t happened, yet. But if it were to happen it could be a big problem, given the potential travel of a .22LR bullet. Now, for that same reason I limit my shooting of slugs at home, especially if I am shooting my .30 cal air rifles.

Some of my air rifles approach or exceed the power of my .22LR ones, especially if I use suppressor ammo (general subsonic, for example 45 grains at 970 FPS). However using pellets limits the travel of the projectile and, given that I am surrounded by woods, makes it very unlikely that I would have a problem from an errant pellet.

I also must say that I share some of Dairyboy’s concerns regarding increasing regulation of airguns. Once it becomes difficult to distinguish between airguns and firearms we run the risk of them simply being lumped into the firearms type of restrictions. This would be a reall shame from my perspective!

Well I see this from a different filter. I got into this sport of airgunning to shoot Deer with airguns. When you go watch my channel - I started big bore and worked backwards into small caliber. The genie is out of the bottle with big bore airguns so pushing a .22 airgun up to 100 FPE isn't going to be the "thing" that causes regulations.

Bro - I am dropping Deer with .50 caliber Air Force Texans and .72 cal 1500 FPE AEA Zeus.

The Genie is out of the bottle and over 20 states have adopted airgun friendly laws to allow for big game airgun hunting. These high air powered precision paper punchers are just that (well small furry critters too).

I quite understand that there are airguns that have firearm level power. Obviously the big bore airguns pretty much all crack that box. However most of these are (a) very large/ with long barrels, (b) have very limited shot counts or are single shot guns. What I see happening, which I suspect will lead to trouble, is the ongoing development of guns with lots of capacity, high power, relatively small size and Semi-automatics. It’s a lot easier to ignore a small niche group shooting single shot AirForce Texans at deer than it is to ignore a bunch of suburban guys blasting away with high power .22 to .35 semi-auto airguns at paper targets or squirrels in their backyards with no backstops.

I am not suggesting that airguns shouldn’t develop and evolve, but we also need to handle them responsibly and with some understanding of the current environment. However, I do agree with you that it won’t be simply the fact that one can push a .22 up to 100 FPE (which I think is cool) which causes regulations, it’ll be the way we use them that will do it.

Chris

I agree with the OP, Pandora's box is already open. @qball, recently posted about his semi auto .25 that he shot at the range. Why? Because it's too powerful for his backyard. We have to assume responsible ownership, regardless of platform. In other words, have faith in fellow shooters. I don't take ANY unsafe shots on my property and assume others who shoot on their property do the same. Safety is not an exclusive behavior to me.

Yeah you guys worried about your airguns being regulated missed the worry boat a long time ago.

i live in friggin Wyoming… and you can’t even so much as use a sling shot in your back yard. So all that is a mute point in my opinion. Even a break barrel .17 is dangerous as hell.

To use your own arguing points against you, they are not cheap. Most powder guys poop bricks when they hear how much these cost. Not like your average joe moron is out buying them and shooting them around town.

Breaking news, airguns cost more. And thumper isn't an Impact fan and the gun is so ugly the styling has been copied by many manufacturers, Daystate included.

So mark it on your calender guys Thumper is not an FX fan.

Haha classic response. I'll give you a recap since your memory is so short, Thumper and yourself come in guns blazing to tell others how much their guns suck. You gave some "if you love it so much why don't you marry it" grade 3 crap. So since you're such an expert in aethetics why don't you show us your vinyl wrapped buttplug machine?

That's called putting your money where your mouth is.

Yeah my love for fx is noted and well known, I also love my Artemis pistols and Edgun. You new here? (Just a new name right;)

Anyways I'll see you guys in the next thread maybe you'll be able to stand behind the bashing garbage you're posting, but then again probably not. You'll turn into the victim and cower like your reply above

:)

Dont you have that highly upgraded Artemis slug shooter? I just want people to backup what they say, its simple. What does "You got butthurt when your own text got literally turned on you..." mean?

If it's so ugly then why do other manufacturers copy the looks? They obviously perform well. Proven track record over 6-7 years. I'm all for opinions but when the same people come and bash and bash its not just giving opinions and you and I both know it.

Well I just took your text and edited it the way to fit you and keep as many same words as possible as you did aim towards other guy.. and you got mad about it so maybe you should think how you represent your words if you would get mad about them also?

Yes I have modified artemis gun with water transfer printed wooden stock with only part of plastic being kydex cheek riser and if you feel my bolt handles look like buttplugs its cool.

I dont think fx guns are ugly no... Overpriced and over hyped 100%. As said I only took your own post and used same words.

@Glem.Chally

I think he means, in so few words:

"You can dish it out but you can't take it."

And I gave my thoughts on why other manufacturers "copied" the *dashingly good cutting edge looks* of the Impact. It's for packaging convenience, not good looks.

It's a lot more work to incorporate all the extra knobs and adjustment points into a functional stock than it is to just stick on a pistol grip and call it a day. And why would they waste the effort, when people will buy it anyway? Build the action, paint it black, stick on pistol grip, done.

That's not bashing, and I think that explanation holds at least a little water, don't ya think?

You know what else holds water? A Super Soaker. The pinnacle of water gun technology 😁

Well it looks like vinyl. Yeah I said that to thumper after his repeated and pointless brand bashing. You're entitled to your opinion as am I. I didn't just turn on Thumper out of nowhere, he attacked so it shouldn't be a problem to give some back right? Same for you, you're fair game.

This is actually what I told you guys, get it right. And no you're shifting the goal post, originally you said they built this style of gun because it's easier and more cost effective than a wood stocked gun which is well....stupid. The Crown has most of the same adjustments as the Impact but they manage to put it in a wood stock. But you're the expert, what does anyone else know about the cost to buy and run CNC machines vs designing a stock for minelli to build.

My point to you was we get it, you don't like these guns. More power to you, so can we move on to being positive about what others like or we need to beat this horse in most threads that mention the gun? Yeah sure it's a super soaker, really clever 👍 Total copy :)

Wow that went south quick, let’s get back on OP’s track.

regardless of comparing apples and oranges from a pure down range performance perspective I do agree with OP that the M3 is very close if not better than 22LR. All the precision rimfire guys I know all shoot subsonic rounds because they are more consistent and more accurate. So that’s 40 grains right at 950-1000 fps with ES around 30fps, this is something the can almost achieve out of box by the M3! I’m fairly confident that with the new 800mm barrel that performance can be achieved straight out of box! And if a slug manufacturer makes a higher BC round nose 40 grain projectile in 22 then it’s a done deal!

Even as of today a Texan .257/35/45 can outshoot any 22LR any day in any condition already.
