Hi
Am a newby to this PCP airgun caper and would like a little help with tuning
Have a 22 cal Impact with carbon sleeve and the slug barrel fitted
Have been trying to tune for slugs and trying different slugs etc
Currently shooting ZAN .217 33grain slugs at about 820-830fps and they shoot well but that is as fast as I can get them to run with front reg at 190bar and second reg at 140bar
When I try and crank up the pressure on the second reg to above 150bar I blow the oring in the reg
Have read where people are running 165-170 bar and 950 plus fps and would like to do so as well
I do have the slug power kit with tungsten hammer but have not fitted it yet
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Dont go above 150-160Bar on any factory FX regulator, you will damage them or at a minimum shorten service life. That includes the front/first reg. People running higher reg pressures are either blowing through regs; or they are removing the front/first reg and using a higher pressure rear/second reg like the Huma. I am assuming you have a shorter 500mm barrel? The short barrels just cant get the same speeds the longer 700/800mm barrels can. My advice would be if you have a 500mm barrel to stick with the standard liner and drop your slug weight down so you dont have to push your Impact so hard. We didnt like the FX slug kit hammer weight, its very heavy and really only suited for really high regulator settings. I ended up using the Huma kit which includes a couple different hammer weights that are heavier than stock, but lighter than the tungsten FX. I would drop your settings back down to normal levels and try some low 20s grain slugs.

Both my Impact manuals, and my Wildcat manual state to never go over 160Bar on any regulator. Can you? Sure, but you can waste a reg seal or piston in a hurry or over some period of time. Buddy went through 2 regulators going over. Months and frequency of use are not the same thing either. Your life and your rifle do what you want, but not a good idea to suggest others go over stated max and pretend like there are no consequences :ninja: ✌️

I shoot through probably 600 shots every week. I mean I'm posting what I do with mine. Fx states a lot in the manual, but the people they endorse clearly state they're going over the recommended pressures. Look at Gerard, Airtac, and Matt. It seems like a lot of shots but I truly go through a lot of ammo, weekly and monthly. I blow probably around $250 a month on slugs and pellets.

Those guys also quietly mention in several videos that they wear out parts a lot faster than the mild tuned gun do. All regulators have an designed operating range. You can go beyond that for a while; but its just a matter of when you have a failure, not if. Just like any other part that sees wear. Depending on how you use or abuse it will determine service life.

It is the 700mm barrel
Am thinking that I will end up shooting mid 20 grain slugs as a happy medium just trying all things at the moment and slugs etc are not common in the local gun shop so have to order online etc and all takes time to come so just trying to get up to speed if I need anything else when ordering
The 33grain ZAN slugs shoot fine at 800+ fps just looking for the best outcome and its all new to me . Am going to order some Javlin slugs soon and see how they go or any other suggestions . Just looking for best option for the 100 yard type ranges as that is what most of my shooting will be done at on rabbits and the odd fox.

Do not overlook the NSA slugs. Great pricing comparatively and shoot very well out of an FX liner as a rule.
My M3 shoots 27.5’s quite well and I can push them faster but have found at 970 fps they are the most accurate. There are no modifications to the gun and it is not being stressed at that level.
With your 700mm barrel you will get the same speeds at lower reg pressures and the stock hammer.
My suggestion is learn your gun and find it’s performance level the way it came from the factory before you start adding all the other stuff and causing yourself complications that may be unnecessarY.
Walk then run.

I keep reading on people gettintg the preformance that you have quoted 950-970fps but I dont seem to be getting there
I have tried the 26 grain javlin gen1 slugs and best I could get them to was about 920fps (same settings as current )
I ordered the go fast bits so to speak then thought it more than likley I am not tuning right way or something I am missing in the process any suggestions or links would be appreciated
Thats when I decided that to ask a few questions before changing everything and having no idea where I started from :)

Whoa, you should not be getting 820-930 pushing a .22 like that especially with the 700mm barrel. I'm getting 878 FPS on a .30 44.74g with a 500mm barrel and 130 bar on reg 2. Something is off and you may have the same problem I had straight out of the box. The FX assembly technician did not set my [cocking block/rod/probe guide] assembly length correctly.

With your cocking handle in the forward firing position, remove your cheek rest and take a look at the hole to access the probe screw. The screw head should NOT be centered up like this:

If it is, you have a probe alignment issue which causes this:

This shaved off 100 FPS at any setting. If you see a sliver of silver like this you are good:

Maybe your setting are too high causing you to shoot slower than desired. I have the mkii with the power block and 720 plenum and when it was set with the. 22 700mm barrel I got the 30gr javelins going 950fps, hammer 3/4 of the way, reg between 146 and 148 bar and micro at about 4.5 lines. No heavy hammer or slug kit, I did have the huma pellet probe and larger slug hole.

If this were my rifle I'd
1. Put the barrel on the slug port
2. Macro to 8
3. Micro to 3.5
4. Valve at 4
5. Second reg at 120

Start tuning from there by increasing hammer via macro wheel until speed levels out......if fps isn't where you want turn macro back and up reg by 4-5 and start over with the macro.

It shoots well as is but I feel like I am running it to hard for the results im getting
Everything that I have read/watched seems to say you can get to 950fps+but I am missing something - probably to much empty space between me ears!
Just like to know I can get it there and then back of a bit so not running gun so hard and have room to move with settings
