FX FX Impact M4 Cal. 22 600 mm - Superior Heavy slug liner or not ?

Hi everyone

I'm waiting on my first FX Impact. I have a AGT Uragan 2 - 600 mm cal. 22 and love it. But now I want to be able to adjust a bit more, so I am waiting for a FX Impact M4 standard (600 mm barrel) cal. 22.

I want to shoot 25-30 H&N slugs but do I then need the slug liner for that ? Is there such a difference with a 600 mm liner ? I know they have different twist rates, but how important is it ?

Thanks in advance ;-)

if you're shooting <100 yards you really don't need slugs. I might be wrong on this with the 22 cal. I have no problem with the .25 with regular pellets out to 100 on coyote sized game. they either drop instantly or within a couple yards.
as long as you get the smaller slugs, they should shoot fine out of the stx superior standard liner. if you want dedicated slugs, you really need to bump it to the 700mm with heavy liner. it would provide a lot more twist for the longer projectiles 1:16 instead of the 1:24.

Personally I prefer shooting an airgun that is operating smoothly, rather than running at its red-line. Unchanged, I'd suggest sticking to the lighter end of the slug range 22g - 26g @ 930 FPS - 1000 FPS. The standard liner may work, but the twist rate may be too high.

If you really want to shoot the heavier slugs you'll want a slower twist liner (heavy liner), and possibly the slug power kit (slug probe + tungsten weight).
FWIW - my unmodified 600mm Panthera (which seems to shoot slugs easier than my Impacts) and my lightly modified 700mm Impact M3 are smooth shooters up to 28g @ 1010 FPS and 30g @ 980 FPS. Both use a Heavy liner.

I have the exact same M4, in .22 and 600mm standard STX superior liner. With the stock 6g hammer, I could push pellets and slugs up to 25gr to stay in low 900s fps, with the reg at 110 to 120 bar and hammer will be close to maxing out. As you continue to push the reg above 130 bar, you'll need heavier hammer and/or higher spring preload to smash that valve. Try your 25gr slugs first to see if you could even tolerate the louder and more violent action noise in ~50ft-lb range before you start swaping liners and other add ons, expect your shot count to go to poop as you pushed your M4 into the upper power band into 60~80ft-lb territory.

Thanks for the reply 🙏 I'll try the 25 gr H&N slugs and get me a heavy slugliner ;-) and then see how it reacts ;-)

I have a 700mm in .25. Standard liner shoots pellets like a dream (AEA, JTS and JSB at 880-890, both 25gr and 33gr) but only ok-ish for any of the various slugs I tried (hybrids, H&N, NSA, JSB KO and others). None grouped as nicely as I would like them to and not even close to pellets. I tried them anywhere from 900 to 1050. Couldn’t get a sub 1 inch group at 45 yards, random placement… hopefully the 1:16 liner will also shoot 34gr pellets nicely, otherwise I really need a dedicated slug gun for those 100 yards plus squirrels :)

Start with stock. So many people feel the need to purchase add on items before even shooting the rifle. See what you have and then add one change at a time. Adding all at once and from the start how will you know what went wrong in your tuning journey?
Agree with this 100% especially for new airgunners or new pcp users. Just keep it in its lane to start out with. Just start with pellets as they are much easier to get good results with. Once you learn the ins and outs of your complex airgun and what makes it tick and how tune it then venture into the slug and power realm. How many times do you see the thread by the new user that has everything hyped for power and their power wheel works backwards. Lol.

Thanks for all the good ideas 🙏🙏

Another question: for shooting 25 grain H&N slugs, is the slug power kit needed ??
No, my bone stock .22 M4 600mm can push the 25 slugs at around 920~930fps with 110 bar at the reg, valve line 4 and Micro wheel at 3.8, in slug transport port. you can get it to high 900s with more hammer and/or bump up the reg to 120 bar, no slug power kit needed for 25gr weight slugs
