FX FX Impact M4 MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES

May be I'm wrong, I've only been using air rifles for 3 years. First 18 months with an Air Arms TX200, first PCP was a Brocock Ghost and then swapped it after 2 weeks for an Impact M3, in bronze. Which turned out to be the best thing I ever did.

The huge mag was great, shooting was fun, but the fact a simpleton like me could do a YouTube disassemble and reassemble of the whole thing in 90 mins blew my mind.

I also quickly discovered, if I wanted pin-point accuracy, I couldn't rely on yesterday's tune. I'd bought the equivalet air rifle to an F1 car. Removing a regulator, which has probable effect, isn't something I could see as being a good thing. May be, only the basis of less moving parts, but how many parts in an F1 car and do they use the same strategy? Bad move IMO. New reg tech would seem an improvement.

That's probably the longest answer you'll get to your No.2 point. The good news is my answer to the rest of your important change list is all the same answer: Upgraded already.

As you might gather, I'm not as impressed. I like the colour, but got bronze already.

1. "better trigger"
2. "reverting to single regulator" (for non technical users),
3. "better pistol grip" and a
4. "stronger top rail" that will be helpful fixing POI shift issues.
BR shooters mostly prefer vertical grips and that gives a totaly different perspective on trigger control. Myself for example happy with shooting BR rings with my Impact MK2 stock trigger. That covers the #1 and #2 for me.
I am tethering 99% and the tank external adjustable regulator deletes the need for the first Reg, so cannot comment on that one.
What I am more interested to see the upper backplate with that sliding option for the picatinny scope rail. I can imagine we can square up the body behind the gun more consistently vs leaning over the cheek weld for a full eye box. I am expecting full benefits with this innovated design.

Thought about upgrading to M4 but not sure why. I've a Impact V2 600mm smooth X twist. Installed M3 power plenum and new valve assembly. 100bar 890fps 5 shots one pin hole. My upgrade went seamlessly, everything fitted together smoothly.

My shooting mate recently purchased the same upgrade kitl in Australia. The valve asembly was too long (1.5mm too long) way out of spec, the power plenum could not be inserted into back of pistol group, too large. The magazine holder upgrade/replacement is cast and curved, should not have passed QA inspection. Installing it introduced a curve in the spine when attached to the block. The bolt assembly went out of alignment, screws were out by 2mm. Put the gun back to original condition and he returned the 'upgrade kit' back to the shop.

I advised he should sell it and buy an M3, then alonng comes the M4. Order placed! But will it shoot slugs as well as pellets? It seems Impact barrels can shoot one or the other but not both very well!

It would seem all I have to do is get an upgraded regulator and I'm 2/3 the way to an M4 6mm barrel - T/F.

I thought double regulator is better??
Doing the front reg delete on my M3 added velocity, do to less air restriction from the tiny little hole cut through the threads on the 1st stage reg. Air has to pass through that and then to the 2nd reg and then the block and then the breech. Also you get a way faster refresh rate because that tiny hole is eliminated. I took mine out just to see what would happen, and I never installed it back.

Interesting. If I end up chasing speed, if and when I get a 30 barrel. I might look at this. But in my .22 sniper shooting pellets the two rega are doing just fine.

I just re checked it. There is no change. Its same as it is in M3.
There is a change to the saftey. On both of my M3's you cannot engage the safety until it's been cocked. On my M4's you can engage the safety before you cock it.
That was a much needed saftey feature.
Its the first thing i noticed on my M4's and havent seen that published anywhere.

There are a lot of things different and all are 100% welcomed. It's worth buying / upgrading.

In M3 if you unscrew the safety adjuster a bit, you can put it on safety even if the gun is not coked. My M3 works like that. But I prefer keeping the safety screw at such position that if the gun is uncoked, safety should not engage. It gives the signal that the gun is not coked. Otherwise one can forget if the gun is coked or not.
