Hi, I'm new to this forum. and live in Ireland .

I recently upgraded and purchased an FX Impact M4 Sniper. With my previous air rifle, I simply bought pellets and shot them. I'm finding it a bit of a minefield with pellets and slugs for the M4. This time, it seems a bit more technical. I'm hoping to find some useful information on this forum from like-minded people.

I have a few questions regarding my M4 Sniper. First, I'd like to shoot birds from 50 to 150 yards and rabbits from 100 to 200 yards with my .25-cal M4.

To get started I have purchased JSB Match Diablol Exact King Heavy 33,95gr. and H&N 34g HP ll slugs. (not even sure if these are the right ones for me but i was mad keen to just get out in the filed and try.)

my questions please are:
  1. everyone seems to have preferred ranges in their FPS which I understand. However, with my JSB for example is there a range of FPS I should be aiming for first before I fine turn to a FPS that suits my barrel. is there a bench mark FPS for each pellet and slug out there from the manufactures?
  2. once I have fine-tuned my pellets and Slugs separately can I easily shoot these on the same hunt without any major adjustments by adjusting my wheels?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
 
I to have bought the exact same rifle the FX M4 sniper .25 in FAC .From the factory set at 100bar /16 on the Macro, 3 on macro and 4 on valve i am only getting 720fps with JSB 34g and 820fps with 26g hades ,slugs in 31g H&N and Zan 33g only 700/710 fps ,Reg needs increased to 125/130 i think and maybe valve opened until i reach around 930fps then close valve to find the sweat spot ,I’ve been watching you tube videos but yes its a learning curve ,please let me know your settings if you get success.Kind regards,David

I am not using an Impact but the pellet speed I mentioned above is a good start.

Are there recommendations from pellet / slug manufacturers for FPS ranges by any change that you can use as a starting point without wasting lots of air trying to find this range?

Slugs you just have to play and test..

The 880-890 for pellets is generally accepted as a very accurate range.. Most competitive shooters shoot at that range.

All rifles are different.. You have to start somewhere.

You also haven't mentioned what liner you are using. At 34 grains those slugs will most likely need the heavy liner or slug liner at 1:18 / 1:16 twists. You will most likely find you will not be able to shoot the pellets and the slugs in same liner with good accuracy,.

Yes, i have just read i need the heavier liner to shot them. However, at this stage, I honestly don't think I'm going to complicate things. i will start with the pellets push our distance and practice and fine tune. Thereafter I might try lighter slugs rather than change out liners.

The gun came with the standard superior liner think it’s a 1 in 24 twist but I was told by the tech wizard at shop it would should slugs but stick to 30 to 33grain max .After initial trials they were not bad groups out to 30m but until I can get the FPS up to 930 and push it out to a 50yd zero I don’t know as you are probably correct .I however would be happy for a set up for 34grain JSB and hopefully be able to dial it down on the macro to run 26grain JSB hades .As I say all new to me but looking forward to learning the settings /tuning side .

when you get a chance to shoot the M4 could you please post any information on settings as I have not as yet adjusted minefrom out of the box set up ? Only one reg now set at 100 bar so in order to achieve 900 fps I was going to crank it up to 125 as a starting point , all you impact m3/4 experts out there any advice would be much appreciated,I have 26 and 34 grain JSB pellets in hades and JSB king heavy ,the slugs in 31g H&N grizzly and the Zan 33g were bought as a trial ,I will be using it as a pellet pusher .

Today I went out with the jsb heavy’s set the regulator at 125 with 16 on the wheel and 4 on the micro. I was getting about 905fps. It was very accurate to 50yards. Beyond that I think I need practice or more tuning

I have just actually set mine at 125bar and moved the macro to 8 left the micro at 3,I kind of think 130bar maybe the target after talking to sportsman he kind of said 125bar with pellets and higher with slugs as he uses a impact himself .I left the valve on 4 and will be out to try next week.If I can get a good set up with the 34grain JSB heavy that will do me ,I only got some slugs to try ,H&N grizzly are cheap and I actually tried the 31g and they were not to bad at around 30yds and only achieving 720fps so will be interesting to see how they run at 50yds with a FPS over 900.

I would like to get my fx zero at 70yards at a minimum for hunting. However, on my last trip out these setting which were accurate at 50yards didn’t seem to be accurate at 70. Some tweaking needed I think

After watching various tuning videos it would appear you aim for a setting 20/30 fps above your target then dial back with macro and fine tune with micro ,880/900 about for JSB heavy .You can then bring valve in till you see a drop in fps then back out slightly to get a area which does not waste air .I am going out today to try my settings .Watching experienced air gunners they do get 2cm spreads at 100yd and even 3cm,I will aim for a 50yd zero and then use a ballistic app /strelok to calculate hold over and windage I have done that at 50yds with my .22rimfire /17hmr and my 223 and it works for me as less error zeroing In at that 50yd ranges .
