FX FX Impact M4

I just ordered an Impact m4 sniper and I’m curious on what’s needed to shoot slugs effectively in it. I was told by the dealer that it comes with a barrel that can handle both slugs and pellets.
I’m not convinced that it will be a great slug shooter as I see for previous models they recommend getting a slug barrel a tungsten hammer and slug power kit.
Can someone let me know if I need to add any other accessories to the m4 to make it a rifle that handles slugs and pellets with the proper tune.

All I will say is please experiment with it in stock form before you dive head first into the power upgrade stuff. You will end up back here bewildered why you aren’t getting the speeds or why your power wheel works backwards etc etc.
What caliber did you get ? What barrel length? How far will you be shooting and for what purposes will it be used? What weight projectile are you interested in shooting ?

You should not need anything extra, unless you got a .25 caliber. If so you will need the heavy liner with the specific 1 in 16 twist rate to shoot slugs.

If you got it in 22 unless you're gonna shoot slugs.34 grains and heavier. You do not need a dedicated heavy slug liner.

I c urrently have a 500mm .177 superior barrel liner and I'm shooting 10.04gr and 13.44gr KO slugs, 13.5gr VK slugs, and 13gr H&an slugs and at 96yds I'm shooting 1.5" in light winds.

I’m getting the 25 cal 700 barrel the sniper model of the m4. My backyard range (I just do plinking) is only 35 yards. I do belong to a club were the max distance is just 200 yards but I do have to a farm where it’s wide open . So most of my shooting
I just went through my impact parts (I have an old impact purchased in 2017?) I found a Slug A barrel 700mm in both 22 and 25 caliber. I also found 3 complete barrel kits a 500mm in 30 cal, 700mm in 25 cal and a 700mm in 30 cal i didn’t take apart yet I don’t know what liners are in the 3 barrel kit

Well make sure they are 1:16 if you wa t to shoot slugs. Even if they say on the side they are 1:16 physically check it yourself to make sure it is the twist you need. A LOT of the older slug liners for the .25 were trash

Personally I have one in 25 cal and it works for me. You can always change to another caliber by getting a new mag, probe and barrel for a few hundred dollars. I have it it 22 and 30 I use 30 for coyote and 22 for birds also with 22 I turn the power down a bit when I don’t want to cause damage to buildings I’m shooting birds off of.

Reviving this for a quick Q: why will the .25 not work with say hybrids as it comes? Doesn’t it come with the superior liner as well?!

A lot of the .25 cal liners were fickle the first several years. Along with customers getting the wrong twist rate liners and getting sub par liners. Most of that got fized with the 1:16 heavy twist barrel where you could shoot a lot of different projectiles. The superior liners they would originally would with if it wasn't the 1:24 twost it was the 1:18 and neither were that great with slugs unless you did a lot of polish work to the 1:18 twist

Gotcha, thanks! If I want to shoot mainly pellets but the occasional slug, would you think the heavy liner is overall still better than the am standard superior? In .25 obviously.

If you want to shoot mostly pellets just keep the liner you get from factory. You could try slugs out of your barrel, maybe you get a decent one and luck out. But if you really want to shoot slugs, go for the 1:16 twist heavy barrel, you should also be able to shoot 33.95gr pellets out of it.

Thanks again!! So the 1:24 is pellets only unless lucky AF, the 1:18 is sort of pointless and the 1:16 wants slugs or heavy pellets

Not sure why everyone buying a impact wants to push it beyond its limits shooting 40gr .22/25 cal slug over 1000 fps. You don't need it. You want it cause you see youtubers doing it. Lol. How about stop trying copy others and just shoot it and enjoy. Are you trying to take down elephant and hippos, is that why you must have a slug gun with all the high power upgrades? Even a stock gun will sling those slugs at 800-900 fps and be just as accurate.

If it shoots them accurately at 800-900 I’ll gladly take it... I’ll see whether I still have some .25 hybrids, NSA or H&N lying around and shoot some out of it, currently tuned for 33.9 at 895 fps. No slugs through it yet and saw the comment above. kinda makes sense to me that 1:24 isn’t ideal for slugs…

There's nothing wrong with trying to get the most out of your set up within reason. He never stated anything about trying to go for those levels of power. Even so they don't reach 22lr power figures, much less .30 cal airguns so idk what the fuss is about.

That's going to be a trial and error situation. I've found that slcertain skugs can be pushed under 900fps and even under 800fps, but they need to be soft and pure lead like Varmint Knockers, Griffing and Zans. Others I've found they need to shoot fast like the Hybrids, they need atleast 945-960 out of the barrel, zans 920-1000, jsb KO 930-1010, andJavelins ffrpm 915fps and up. If you're tuned for 33.95 at 900fps then they should work just fine, but again just make sure to test your barrel for slugs before you decide to buy a heavy liner.

I’ll report back if I still have some! Thanks!!

There's nothing wrong with upgrading. But sometime its best to just shoot the gun and see how it performs b4 trying mess with it. If it ain't broken don't fix it. Seem like OP is in a situation where he thinks to shoot slugs it's needed to upgrade barrel, tungsten hammer, slug power kit, etc. You don't need all that. Just cause people see youtubers putting all that sht in their guns don't mean you have to. I was the in same boat as OP when I first got my impact. I see ppl putting all these sht like slug power kit, dual port, tungsten hammer, longer barrel, etc. And put so much money into upgrades which I don't even need.
