Do I zero the scope and air rifle straight out of the box and then do my tuning to preferred pellet/slugs.

It is usually best practice to test out the factory tune before you start twisting knobs. What Cal and length did you pick?

Ballistol/PatchWorm cleaning to remove rust preventative in barrel is recommended. Steve, at AEAC, has a great PatchWorm how-to video on YouTube. JSB pellets, 18.1 grain for .22, 33.95 grain for .25 and 44.75 grain for .30, would be ideal "starter" pellets before adjusting anything. Chances are FX tuned your M4 to one of these anyway. WM

Yes and give your new gun a tin of pellets to settle as the internals seat themselves. Congrats on your new gun and enjoy.

Yep, that's what I do, zero it and then start shooting. If you want to do something first, clean the barrel, otherwise, mount the scope, zero it and start putting some lead down range. You may find it's shoot at or near what you want right out of the box. Plus, if it's zeroed before tuning, you will be able to see shifts in POI and/or accuracy as you go, which may help you decide on the proper tune for your use.
