FX FX Impact MK4

I wish my experience was as good as yours, I bought a 30cal impact sniper
used it for a few weeks and it was shooting 4" groups at 40 yards
I talked the FX people here in Australia and they told me to up the 1st reg to 180psi and the second to 140-150 psi out of the box it was 140 & 110
I waited for the chronograph I purchased to arrive before touching anything. Found it was shooting fx slugs at 540fps
So then i started testing pressures etc to get it to where I wanted it. Shoots 1" groups now at 50yards at 860fps
I am after a little more speed so now waiting for hammer & spring kit to arrive & barrel tensioner and sleeve.
I am chasing 950fps but we will see when the upgrades arrive
Sorry to hear about your troubles with the .30.

I worked in a manufacturing environment and know that in a high demand, high volume production of a complex product there's always some small percentage that can have deffective parts or be out of spec that is missed by inspection. Unfortunate, but that's life and that's what warranties are for.

*** I am chasing 950fps ***
I prefer .22 caliber and know little about the .30, 950fps sounds to be very fast for that size of slug. Is that typical?

...At those power levels, I'd be reaching for a powder burner 😉

Hope you get to the tune you want!

I think I spied one at the range the other day.

a real, solid, barrel without vibrations, without carbon sleeves, without 10 oring transfer ports and bolts that unscrew, and a regulator that doesn't need a second regulator to work (WELL). a thicker and more rigid guiding plate, and an efficient alignment of the picatinny rail, not by eye... the impact mk4 needs that if I spend more than 2000 euros per purchase then I don't have to spend another 1000 on parts to make it shoot well

I've had no problems with my Impact - but then I didn't start jerking the adjustments all over the place before it was broken in either.

Stock, with a factory tune my Impact has outshot all my other PCPs (Air Arms, Daystate, Weihrauch and Walther). I have realistic expectations so there's no complaints about performance. IMHO it's more than adequate for everyone short of a professional competitor (and, by necessity, they are never satisfied/happy).

The only "accessory" I needed was a larger grip to suit my big hands. The professionals might benefit from all the fancy stuff but I can't see spending $$$$ for casual shooting. Nothing wrong with personalizing but most accessories are exactly that: optional purchases. Your dollar, your choice.

I like tuning for accuracy with different projectiles. To avoid leaks and regulator issues I keep the power to levels suitable for that caliber. No point in looking for trouble.

I treat my equipment well, do regular maintenance and all is good! Now all I need is spring and some warm weather so I can get back to shooting outside!

Cheers!
I have 2 Impact M3,s myself and 2 friends each have one aswell...so access to 4 M3 Impacts. NOT one is "Consistent" !!

Having the Impact MK2 since 2020 I never had any other problems with it but a mechanic user over doing/tinkering with things.
Obviously the FX Impact and variations are not for everyone.
I would suggest get rid of it and start a new morning with a fresh mind ;) why suffer?
I would take a test ride with a bullpup with a new updated action block, no matter what that would be called M4?

Guilty your honor

Like many people in the big wide world I watch too many YouTube vids and like many others I get tied up in the bullpoop and start to believe all the hype and crap out there.
My 30cal shoots very nice at 860fps and I am looking for 950ish but cant quiet get there with a standard gun,, fair enough so I have ordered upgrades.
I watched a video of one the king pins in FX shooting and I am sure he mentioned he was running his 30cal at 1100 fps, so I watched the video a few times.
Thats when I noticed something so I screen shot it so you can see also
No its not broken, a king pin wouldn't hunt with a broken gun

I looked at your picture. It’s pretty blurry. I don’t know what kind of gauge that is but it might be pegged. Which would suggest his second reg is set at some crazy high number. If this is the case, ironically he feels he doesn’t need a giant backbone to help a large caliber/projectile gun with substantial harmonics. Just remember, a guy or king pin for a company has full access to parts. He can destroy his gun running it hot and just rebuild it like it’s no big deal. Longevity means nothing when you have full access and like putting out hype videos. Guys putting out videos with their maxed out airguns that appeal to powder burner guys sell lots of parts. The dumb YouTube viewer doesn’t know that he wrecks a valve every 1,000 shots.

yes mate we all know that

My point was you pay a premium price for an FX Air Rifle, just like you pay a premium price for a porsche
when you buy a porsche no matter what model or engine you buy it goes and handles perfectly out of the box.
No need to tune it, and if you like you can hot it up and go faster.
FX Air Rifles should work very well out of the box, (But not so, average at best) and if you want later you can hot it up.
The impact has too much adjustability to expect it to be perfect out of the box. Isn’t going to happen. They have other models that are more of a take it out and shoot it. Impact is for a different type of airgunner.

@SpringfieldScooter , your lack of sober thinking about FX is suspicious.

Please tell me how a perfect gun can have a big design flaw described here?:

Impact is a decent gun. That's it.

As of their liners - many of them have issues - bore cracking, inconsistent bore diameter.

The POI shifting is my only real issue with my M3's.

Unless the M4 does not have the front barrel clamp, cocking block, and a rear barrel guide integrated into the main rail, I won't be moving off my M3's. FX made the Impact too dam modular.
I’ve said it for years. If they focused on single caliber Impacts, small, medium and large, they could make a better gun. If you buy a .22 600mm Impact and it can never be anything other than a .22 600mm Impact, it will be a better gun. But pellet and slug over the chronograph sales would go way down and the guys who think they will be caliber swapping but wind up figuring out it isn’t worth the hassle would be crying. I’m guessing 90% of the guys who buy an Impact have delusions of grandeur about how many calibers they will be shooting out of one gun. Then when reality strikes about just keeping the gun happy on one caliber and barrel length, they leave it alone and buy another gun for a different caliber. That’s what I did.

Very true ! The caliber change is a bit gimmicky. When you hit that home run of a tune who wants to change it ?

Sad reality there!!! I have a Maverick Compact that I have 25 and 22 cal set ups for. It was originally a 25 and I wanted to try it in 22. I decided to just leave it in 25. The 22 could do nothing that the 25 could not for my purposes. The changing is not that bad with the Maverick. Both barrels have their own shroud so that part is easy. Change the hammer and probe and the operation is maybe 1/2 an hour. Then change the tunes which are recorded and easily returned to.
Still it is not worth it.
The problem with the Impact is that nobody will tell a new buyer, “this is NOT an entry level gun“. You need to have a fairly clear understanding of tuning before you take this thing on. If you want a high end plug and play? Don’t buy an Impact.

"Tuning" or lack thereof seems to be the copout a lot of users put forward as the reason for the Impact M3,s , inconsistency..

It isn't that hard to "Tune" an Impact M3 !! What is hard...and Very Very frustrating is the Imapct M3 will NOT "consistently" perform even when the optimal "Tune" is achieved !

My M3,s have produced some amazingly small groups from 100yds all the way out to 300yds in perfect conditions....will they do this consistently and without POI changes....... NOT on your life !!

The sorry excuse for a "Barrel" and the means by which it is interfaced with the chassis is just a complete joke......there is just so much potential for tolerance variation with the barrel setup.
I don't think some understand just how much influence some of these "small" tolerances can effect the overall performance........ and ...consistency!!

Barrel harmonics are very very finicky at times, with the way FX designed the barrel system on the M3 you are is basically doomed before you start.

There are other known issues with the M3 as others have pointed out, but for me the "Barrel" is the biggest issue i have in relation to the M3..

I have some very sad news for you. Two of my three M3‘s wear real barrels. It changes things. But the guns can still be finicky. I’m talking strictly slugs here. For pellets, if you waste your time and money on a real barrel, it’s foolish. If your pellet shooting Impact gets whacky, it would have still got whacky if it had a solid barrel on it. I’m currently testing a barrel I just built. I put I on my pellet shooter so I wouldn’t have to poke my other two Impacts that seem to be happy right now with a stick. Things started out like I was making a slug shooting highlight reel. Now I’m having weird velocity swings and am starting to go in circles. The thing about an Impact and why I’ve owned 6 of them is because they will let you extract the most out of a barrel and projectile. But the fly in the ointment is it might only be for a day, a week or month If your standards are high. My sole purpose is to figure out, if possible, how to make the gun long term. I have one that’s about as good as it gets but it’s almost a powder burner. That’s why I’m working on a barrel and components right now to get back to a safer friendlier slug shooter. My little .22 slug shooter is my favorite. When it’s happy, it’s insanely accurate. But sometimes it gets an attitude for no reason. So I slap it around until it behaves again. Full time job with these things. Pellets no. Stellar with them.

If you take all the major airgun long range competitions, over the past 5 to 10 years, and focus on the top winners of each event, it dosent take long to see that 1 particular brand dominates. And more recently, (say the past 3 years), one particular make AND model seem to dominate! For 2023, the competition was closer than ever, (some would say better) , but until more people prove themselves with the other brands, FX is the clear winner with the Impact. The proof is in the pudding history books!

They are shooting pellets. Most of the Impact complaints come from slugs. Pellet issues can be ironed out rather quickly.

Pick 1 projectile, tune the Impact around that particular projectile, and everything changes!

The uneducated are doing it backwards, by constantly switching everything from caliber size, different projectiles, slugs to pellets, and back to slugs, different barrel lengths, to all sorts of additions that are not even necessary!

Pick 1 projectile, tune the Impact around that particular projectile, and start winning competions like so many other world class winners have already done!
