This is my personal Impact with modified stock. It has become very stable.

I also use other style of rests for my Impact and those which come for tuning.

I shall also share those pics later.

I'd like to see you lugging that rifle around and do the type of hunting Bob is doing. I guess that is the point shooting off a bench and using fancy shooting rests is not what Bob myself and other hunters and pesters are doing. I much rather be outdoors enjoying nature than being all anal about target shooting. Though some people enjoy that aspect of shooting. To each his own but in the context of Bob's post as an hunter I wish people would not take away from his skill and accomplishment. Bill

100% agreed.

Hunting and target shooting are two completely different disciplines.

I didn't know that Bob is basically a hunter. I took him as a target shooter.

That is why I requested for 10 shots groups.

Sorry if anyone got hurt. I never intended it.

I just want to put in my 2 cents on the whole 10 shot groups thing. I think the thing we might want to try and understand is the concept of statistics. What would be a statistically significant number of shots to represent the accuracy of a particular gun? I don't really know the answer but I think you'd be surprised as to how low a number that is in actuality. Take the Nielsen Ratings for TV.......41,000 viewers are a statistically significant sample to represented the entire US viewing audience which is in excess of 119 million.

I wouldn't be surprised if 3-5 shots was close to the actual number to represent an accurate gun.

But forget that and just look at three shots making a group, measuring 0.16" at 98 yards!!!. I can barely do that at 30 yards with my .25 cal Impact. I'm happy to get 0.3-0.50 at 50 yds The best I've done at 100 is 0.9" with the average at about 1.2" But when I first got the gun, before tuning and beefier valve seats and X-liners, I was shooting in excess of 3"

This 0.16" and the one inch and some change groups at 200 yards are truly amazing groups!!!! And for hunting??? I'll take that any day.

I kinda think Ted ruffled everyone's feathers with the 10 shot challenge and I agree with Bob_O in that 10 shot groups become more a function of the shooter's ability. Ted's a great shot.

Go for 10 if you want but I think you're just wasting lead.

Anyway, I'm in total awe of Bob_O's groups and totally convinced by three shots that he's got one hellava gun there.

If you shoot 10 shot groups vs 3 shot groups you have a much higher chance with 3 shots to hide imperfections in the gun. Plain and simple no one can argue that.

True. However a ten shoot group as a much better chance of introducing shooter error and condition change . So it’s not so plain or simple . There are ways to reduce shooter error and condition change and if you do then I agree. We’re (or Bob’s) talking about real world hunting accuracy and I think shooting 3 shot groups makes a lot of sense. Plus he is only comparing one slugs performance to others in his gun with him shooting. He’s getting the information HE needs . If you want to be entirely scientific about it I could argue that one ten shoot group isn’t all that meaningful either. For me the distance is what is meaningful. Groups at 50 tell me nothing. Those at 100 a lot and if I could put two shoots in an inch at 200 I’d be doing back flips.

5 or more 10 shot groups is all a great representation of what the gun can do. Regardless of any factors such as shooter or wind if you shoot 5 10 shot groups at 100 that will tell the whole story.

Bobs video today of the 200 yard groups are unbelievable. That was very telling of what these guns can.

I would argue that if a gun has real imperfections it would show up in the first 3-5 shots. Besides I usually shoot 4 shots into one hole and get one flier at 50 y. Does this prove that the gun is faulty? No, it was either me, a bad pellet or some random variable like a gust of wind.

I don’t need to shoot 10 shots to determine my gun’s accuracy. All 10 shots does is makes a slightly bigger hole. Three to five shots tells me more of the story.

And I agree that when shooting slugs, if you have a 100 yard, 3 shot group at 0.16” why waste seven more shots? Those things are ’spensive!

I've been a hunter and I've spent all day fiddling and shooting groups. For a hunter, first shot accuracy is often paramount. Either type of shooting can be enjoyed but they are in many ways different animals. No single opinion on such would seem to suit all shooters.
