Comparative Air Pressure Gauges

Hey I ordered the FX Impact from AOA and begged them to skip the testing phase. I doubt some of the issues I found would have been found through the testing phase but here are some problems that may occur skipping that. Testing usually takes 3-4 days. Throw that on top of shipping and many people will be waiting 1-2 weeks before receiving their Impact. I was impatient and asked them to do 2nd day air which ofc did not end well. I had a ton of fun with it, but as with any FX Impact, problems should be expected. Here is the 2nd portion of my letter to them which will be enclosed with the gun and sent off Monday.

1. The Air Pressure Gauge that shows pressure in the air reservoir is about 50 Bar incorrect compared to my Air venturi tank. So either my Air tank gauge is wrong or my FX Impact’s gauge is wrong. There are documented cases on airgunnation describing the inaccuracy of the air gauge. I am afraid of filling to 250 bar using my air tanks as it could be 300 bar on the FX Impact, which could result in an explosion.

2. Accuracy There are some massive accuracy issues that need shot groups to diagnose the problems. Issues were more evident when putting on DonnyFL’s Shogun LDC/moderator. However, the accuracy was not spectacular with the LDC off either. Gun has been thoroughly cleaned yet the accuracy is still there.
  • We are talking about a 2 inch group @ 40 yards which roughly translate to a 5-6 MOA group@100roup @ 100 yards or a 5-inch group with Donny FL’s LDC. Its strange because the first two shots shoot within half of an inch to a quarter of an inch but then I get two big fliers w/ the LDC. Definitely not what I expected from a two thousand dollar gun. My FX Wildcat I bought used off the forums was more accurate than this, almost 1 MOA with unsorted pellets.
  • It will probably be evident when taking shots at 25 yards. I hope there will be multiple group test as it may not show up in the first 5 shot group. I have included my scope and LDC to better get down to the problem.
3. Shot count: This may be due to the faulty air pressure gauge. I am getting only 3 magazines before I have to fill the tank again. The gun is extremely loud for a .25 caliber and is borderline backyard friendly. I think air is leaking elsewhere when firing the pellet due to the pellet probe being misaligned or maybe air is leaking elsewhere.

4. Onto partly being my fault. Pellet probe was pretty straight from the box. I had no problems loading pellets and firing. Then after about 3-8 mags worth of shooting, the pellet probe(probe that you also get when purchasing a higher caliber barrel for the FX impact) starts wobbling around and it is unable to load the pellet due to hitting the plastic cover of the magazine. I tried to ameliorate this by simply tightening the allen key set screw that holds the probe in place. Once again, this fixed the problem for about 3-8 mags but then it became loose again and the whole process would repeat itself. I suffered this for about half a day worth of shooting(I have Saturdays, and Sundays off), until I decided to take out the probe to see what was wrong. This should not be against warranty or repair policies because people need to take the probe out to change calibers for the .30, .177, .22 caliber. This is an advertised feature of the FX Impact. Well basically when putting the set screw back in, it would not go in anymore and broke trying. I tried multiple Allen keys including metric and standard. I also made sure I was not stripping the set screw. I might have possibly misaligned the probe. However, there are marks in the probe already as if someone already has had this issue.

5. There were scratches on the FX Impact’s regulator pressure gauge as if someone already scuffed up this brand new rifle. There were also scratches all over the gun as if this was not a brand new gun. No big deal as It looks like it's in very good condition to sell as brand new. At first, I thought it was normal because there was still some metal from the CNC cutting, However it became evident when I put the gun back in the case to send back to AoA. There was also a scratch on the carrying case.

6. The Regulator Deviation after a tin of pellets(to let the regulator settle) is not ideal for target shooting or long range shooting. FPS through a brand new chronograph @230 Bar(on FX Impact’s supposedly faulty gauge) reads:
908
905
890
880.
889
Here is an image of FPS spread from Airgunnation’s moderator Michael:http://i.imgur.com/tqvcJHg.png?1 This is a 30~FPS deviation that should not be this big from a two thousand dollar gun. The possible problem is from misaligned pellet probe.

7. Very Loud for a .25 caliber. This gun is louder than my old FX Wildcat which has a shorter shroud. Almost borderline backyard friendly(and yes I have a big back yard) Adding the Donny FL LDC helped very little. My neighbor was scared for her life and told me to be careful not shoot her(despite shooting away from her). They are tolerant and are already afraid due to the loud report.

I purchased about 1500$ worth of items to accompany this FX Impact. This includes a brand new FFP scope, a 75 CuFt 4500PSi tank, pellets, handpump, Air Compressor, FX No Limit Rings, Bubble level, and range finder. I want this gun to work well and maybe I am just not ready with a gun this modular and customizable. As with any gun that is so modular, customizable, and worth 2000$ I should expect many issues. I know that many other people have had many problems with this gun from its debut in 2015-2016. I also know that I waived the testing phase since I wanted the gun in my hands as soon as possible. However, please, at your mercy, fix this gun or replace it with a different one. I have learned my lesson. Always allow AOA to quality check their airguns before sending it off to me. I even spent roughly 120$ for 2nd-day air and will now probably be spending, even more, money to ship it back.

Comments suggestions appreciated :(.

"Maineiac"Be sure to call them and talk to Kevin to get an RMA number before you ship it back!
Ty, I'll make sure to call them and get a RMA number. I am worried that since the set screw is stuck and it was cocked when trying to get it out. It is currently under spring tension. I hope it doesn't damage the springs as it is currently half compressed atm. I can no longer move the bolt and the set screw is scratching the anodized black paint. Then again, the Impact had strange micro scratches all over the gun. Doesn't feel new...must be my imagination.

And wow, I feel like there are too many problems to fix and that I was just unlucky with the harmonics, barrel specs, and regulator. Its nightmarish inaccurate. Well, it is still more accurate than the Benjamin NP springer i had a year or so ago ahhaah! If i get a chance to return it and exchange for a new one, imma jump on it. Forget, repairing a broken gun. Bad accuracy can be a number of issues combined into one. I want to send them the impact with my scope, and LDC to get to the bottom of this.

Edit: It came with...6 baffles total. Only can put five of them to make it fit in the foam box.

"dodge3500"Personally for myself refund all the way.
just too many parts and adjustments for my tastes but if your mechanically inclined keep her.:)
I'm making a high end purchase in August and the impact has fallen off my list as I'm a leave it alone kinda guy,if it shoots hood don't mess with it.:)
Good point. I would just be happy if they fixed everything and get the accuracy right. Heck if they can't fix the pressure gauge or loudness then no biggie, just let it shoot decent groups. I will probably not mess with the regulator but will be changing to .30 calibers. I just can't see anything else on the market that I want. Maybe an FX Wildcat in .25 cal or a new fx impact. Lol i was thinking right before I bought it, "it's been like 1 and a half years since their debut. They have got to have everything fixed now right? Nope.... Still an unfinished gun." 2-4 Inch Group @ 40 yards is broken. Nothing normal about that. I just hope they will even allow a refund or exchange. Fixing a inaccurate gun takes a ton of troubleshooting. I'd hate for them to send me back a 1 inch group @ 40 yard gun, still subpar accuracy, kind've like big bore air rifle accuracy lol.

Ponder this.....all the guns that go back to the distributor for whatever issue....be it that there is a mechanical issue, simply cause you don't like it. Guess what happens to the gun. They give it a once over and ship it back out to the next guy. I think this practice is wrong. It's like buying a new car and never knowing that it's a refurbished, or used. Maybe I'm wrong. Doubt it though. This pertains to all distributors that take guns back.

So your saying my gun was probably used before coming to me? This would explain the microscratches and burrs that I found on the gun before it came to me. I'm going to call them and see what aoa can do for me. Hopefully they have good support. Satisfaction is their priority is what their motto is. They even have a 30 day satisfaction returns. However they said this only applies to unfired guns. But there is the question, how are you supposed to know if you are satisfied without shooting it? And are you supposed to not shoot or use the gun in a 30 day period to be able to return it? Seems a little ridiculous to me.

Hey, guys! Just spoke with AOA: Salesman+customer support Darren. He was extremely helpful and did a great job telling me that I messed up big time by not allowing them to test the guns. I guess he could've been more rude telling that I messed up. He did it perfectly, stern but not mean. Besides the possibility that they would have probably not found the probe issue, I am still satisfied (even more satisfied if they fix the gun) and would not have the guts to speak in such a negative manner to someone who sounds so polite to me :). I mean lets face it, be patient, let AOA do their testing phase for the guns, or else you might end up with a gun like mine hahaha.

I guess it is just a fact at this point that FX cannot keep quality control high for their guns in comparison with the demand. Simply, the FX Impact is one of the most popular gun in the world and we can no longer expect the produced product to be identical to youtube reviewers or the top dog pepes. So that would explain the rough edges micro scratches on the gun. The barrel showed signs of wear and dents in the nick that locks the barrel into the gun to prevent movement. there are rub marks on the buttstock as if someone Rubbed this on carpet multiple times for wear.

Anyways, they quickly suggested and willingly accepted my FX Impact for repairs. I did not ask them to provide or replacement or refunds(because even I know that is pushing it, although man if there was a manufacturer that could do that, people would be very happy), but I guess if they are able to fix all the issues wrong with my gun then I will be happy either way. There is also the possibility I can send to someone to tune the gun even further if AoA can't fix it but I will keep you guys updated if this is a pass or fail. I will shoot five shot groups @ 40 Yards to see if they fixed it. If not then, I think seeking help from Ernest or someone would be a better idea than constantly sending it to AOA.

I hope they take care of you, you have invested a lot of money with them and they do owe you some good customer support.

Now you should have not been in such a rush to get the gun. Let them run the gun through their preparation etc.

Had you done this you most likely would not have had these issues and the accompanying stress.

Haste makes waste, but Live and Learn.

I know there are a lot of satisfied, probably very happy impact owners but i have read more posts concerning issues about the impact.

Those posts are all major red flags to me.

As far as rubs, scratches, scuff marks, machining issues/marks, none of that is acceptable. If i paid whatever for a new gun that is what i want, no excuses.

So seeing that would have been enough for me to call them and send it back.

I hope they spend the time necessary to change out the parts, air guage, whatever and fix you up good luck.

Man,I truly hate to hear all the issues you've had with your impact and hope they get you all sorted out.AOA is being a stand up company by fixing it after you didn't want the testing done .
I will say there ain't no way I would accept a 2000$ gun that came with those issues ,when those guns get to AOA they should be top notch and good to go for 2k I expect it to be perfect.I do understand first runs being a little buggy but they came out in 2015? and this is 2017 .
FX needs to either hire more quality control peeps or slow production to keep quality standards higher.
Best of luck.:)
