The scope rail of Impact is always my favourite as it allows me to adjust the scope vertically and horizontally. No need of adjustable mounts.

The weak area that gives flex to Impact is its top rail that holds both the blocks of Impact.

I have made a 20mm thick Aluminium top rail to eliminate the flex of the gun.

Now it feels like a solid one piece gun.

Let's see in few days if it helps avoiding shifting POI or not.

Bhaur

:) can I suggest trying something? When you making the new top plate thicker prepare couple new hole pattern to move the picatiny rail backward towards the stock.
Something like this, I moved the scope 100mm (see the front turret clamp location) and now I can have a full eye box without touching the cheek piece but completely sitting behind the stock. But again I dedicated this Impact for >100 M bench rest shooting only mounted on a rest.

Interesting and very logical.

Thank you 😊

I spent maybe 95% of my shooting time from a bench, always tinkering how to handle the Impact with a least contact possible. Instead of leaning over to reach the eye box - resulting a cheek pressure - I figure more consistent if sitting behind the butstock. But that needs a scope to move for eye box. Like the BR railguns or Thomas rifles ;)

POI shift may be caused by the loose fitting between the liner and the front liner nut. I am not taking about the clamping force though. I am talking about the tolerance between the liner and the nut itself. Just add some steel sheet if the fit is not snug and you should be good to go.

When I had my impact I installed a air marksman backbone rail, I think it helped the rigidity substantially.

You got rid of the backbone? If so then why?
