FX Impact x or FX Crown?

What do you plan to use it for?Ā

Hunting? Impact, be afraid of scratching the Crown or jolting the free floating barrel, and the Impact is easier to carry

Bench shooting? Impact and Crown are equally as accurate, but prefer the Impact personally because it's shorter and easier to manage for me.Ā

Personally, Just prefer a shorter gun.Ā My opinion only! My personal taste as well. Your taste and opinion may differ!

Gee Whiz! I think I just recommended the Impact over the Crown.Ā

I have both in .25 and for hunting I like the Impact. On the bench I prefer the Crown mainly because it's easier for me to be accurate as I'm not sure I'll ever fully adjust to the bullpup design off the bench. Also, the Crown was easier for me to adjust properly for the 34grn JSBs.

I'd be hard pressed to pick one over the other, but since my Crown is the black pepper laminate I'm loathe to hurt it in the field,Ā so I guess I'd take the Impact. I'd have no such worries with the synthetic tho

The impact is shorter and not as easily damaged. It also has the ability to use the SideShot brand high capacity magazines which give 10 more shots in any caliber over the FX mag and are built about 100x better that the cheaply made and WAY over priced FX mag.

The Crown has a more natural rifle feel at the cheek but the barrel isn't well supported where it goes into the receiver. In other words the barrel is easily deflected.

I prefer the Impact by a wide margin.

FX Impact for Hunting 75%, Target 25% , Compact Carry

FX Crown for Target 75% and Hunting 25% , a little more accuate.

I have both.

I keep seeing these devices which connect the grip of the Impact to the stock. They make me think someone has noticed that you flex the gun (minutely) when shooting and can shift POI by doing so, and so they're trying to come up with a bandaid fix for it.Ā While some people bemoan the free floated barrel on the crown, I think of it as a massive boon. I've not observed any rigidity issues from the attachment of barrel to action on my Crown.Ā

I see the Impact as having a lot of the disadvantages of bullpups. They include being harder to single-load (which is more accurate than mag feeding), mechanical complexity with linkages for everything and more plumbing, slower and more awkward mag changes, shorter distance between bipod and shoulder bag (accuracy reducing), and a higher price. Don't get me wrong, the Impact is an amazing gun as are many bullpups. It is stylish, accurate, has a reasonable trigger (unusual on bullpups), and convenient cocking lever positioning. Really it is quite remarkably good, one of the best bullpups of all time. But also keep in mind that the reason not everything, airguns and firearms, is a bullpup is that they come with a bunch of disadvantages for which the only compensatoryĀ advantage is lower overall length.

If you're not length constrained, and you had to choose between the two, I'd recommend the Crown. It really isn't a very long or unwieldy gun. On the flip side, if you want to do a lot of maneuvering in tight spaces, the Impact is clearly the better choice although I would also be sure to consider the Wildcat as it has aĀ potentially more accurate magazine system (less disruptive to the pellets) and has the forward cocking lever of the Crown.Ā

Food for thought.

Woow thanks for so much influence guys!

i see the impact was an armlength forward...

in length I have no issue cause here in Austria hunting with airrifles wasn’t allowed, so I can only shoot on targets. But I have to say that I have an bullpup, fx Bobcat mkll.25, im pretty happy with it, but iā€˜ve Heard of the changeable barrel liners so I got into buying an new FX rifle.

My personal like wasĀ that iĀ want a feel or a more realistic feel of an rifle like the crown, but I have heard that the 700mm barrel only fits on the impact, and in my opinion a longer barrel speaks for better accuracy and less air consumption cause of the longer way the air can speed up the projectile. And a compact gun was easier to transport than a long one.

itā€˜s a Hard decision.

does both of the guns come with a case? OrĀ only the impact?

mechanical complexity with linkages for everything

The only linkage in an Impact is to the pellet probe and I see no disadvantage to it since it's guided at both ends. I've had my gun completely apart and it all seems quite simple. I can't imagine why people call an Impact complicated. It does have more parts but I don't see anything complicated about it.

I have both FX Impact (.22STand .25ST, 700 mm STX)Ā and Crown (.25). I recommend you go straight to the 700mm .25 FX Impact. This 700 mm .25 FX impact is more accurate than all my other airguns ( RAW HM1000x, Thomas, Daystate Airwolf, Redwolf, Taipan Veteran). I can single load easily. It is very stable with a Atlas bipod. It has the most shots with the high capacity magazine. I also added aĀ DonnyFL Ronin to the Impact which makes it quieter than the Crown. It gives me zero problem so far.

The "device" of which STO is referring, may be a bag rider such as on Thayne Simmons Impact. Due to the very small footprint of the Impacts buttstock,a bag rider would aid greatly in ease of adjustment with a rear bag.

Something to remember about the Impact, there are no linkages for the trigger like a standard bullpup. The trigger is where the trigger appears to be. It's a fantastic trigger too (so is the Crown from what I hear.)

All that extra plumbing you are referring to is in the trigger block, including the regulator, so when you pull the trigger, the hammer, regulator, fancy stuff that controls the air and the rest is down in the trigger block, so there's no hammer slap under your cheek. You don't feel a thing, it's smooth as butter as they say.

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to guns, and hated the Impact when I first picked one up. Just felt strange. Now that I've used one for a while, it's been fantastic! Great trigger, regulated, well balanced and SHORT! I like short guns. The design gives full barrel length in a short package and I have the option of installing a 700mm barrel, which you can't do on the Crown. (At least it's not recommended due to the floating barrel design.

Before anyone writes off the Impact as a Bullpup, please do a bit of research. It's not a standard bullpup. It eliminates the standard problems with ingenious designs.

  • Flexing the gun, device attaching the grip to the stock - not sure what you are referring to
  • Single shot - probably correct, more difficult to single load
  • Trigger Linkage - There isn't any. Trigger is direct to the seer, though the pellet probe is attached via linkage, but it's incredibly well constructed.
  • Extra Plumbing - There isn't any, it's all in the trigger block, with air directly piped to the pellet after the valve which is inside the trigger block opens.

The Wildcat does have some of the disadvantages you speak of, such as the trigger linkage and pellet probe as it's more of a traditional design for bullpups.

I have seen one Crown in action. The shooter was an avid PB Benchrest shooter for years, so adapted easily to the Crown. He showed me a 16 shot group at 75 yards. JAB 34 grain .25 caliber. About 1 inch by 1/4 inch rip in the paper.

Both guns are fantastic, you can't go wrong with either, but do remember the Impact isn't a bullpup in the traditional sense, it's a whole lot better

Ok thanks for your opinion, that’s the words I was waiting to hear.

now I think iā€˜m Pretty sure what rifle I take!

thanks a lot!

I'm making the same decision as you OP. Crown, Impact or the new Wildcat 30 with 700mm Xbarrel. I'm even torn between calibers! 25 or 30. Part of me says the 30 cal pellets are too expensive, but we're buying $1350 to $2000 rifles! I know air usage is higher on the 30 and that part will cause many trips to the SCUBA store or buy a Chinese compressor

You have to buy what you really want or you will always have that question in your mind.

I always buy what I really want. Sometimes it takes awhile, and some research, to decide what that is. That's why we're here, getting opinions, from those who have owned both.
