FX FX King or FX Continuum 30 cal.

I recently purchased the FX King in 30 caliber. I also have a Crown in 25 caliber. It is light, easy to manuver and easy to carry. I purchased the King for extended ranges for woodchucks. I have taken woodchucks out to 75 yards with the 25, but the 30 is really the ticked for shooting these critters when the distance exceeds 75 yards. It really hammers them, and the report is awsome. But...The King is heavy, long, combersome to walk with, and I just can't find an easy way to carry it easily. I even bought the Saber Chassis for it basically to mount it to a tripod.
I am considerating replacing it with the Crown in 30 caliber which I see that Utah Airguns have in stock. I'll have to do some checking to see if I am losing too much energy by going that route. On my King I am shooting the Zan slugs, 59 grains at 920 FPS. I'm pretty sure that I can't achieve that with the Crown, but if I can stay close I may opt for it.
I really like the King, but for those of you who have one, they are not the easiest rifles to carry.
Like to know your thoughts, and thank you all!!

You will definitely give up A LOT of power. I had a 600 mm mk1 crown and best I could get was 860 fps with 44.75 pellets. I know the mk2 is a bit more powerful and you could go 700 mm. I doubt you will achieve much over the upper 70’s to 80 ft/lb I would guess. What length king do you have ? If you end up deciding on a crown bullet central has one left over. It’s a laminate stock .30 cal 600 mm for 1600

I was just looking at King vs Crown as a bench rifle in .30 cal, but ended up getting a much better trade deal at another shop and instead ended up with a Red Wolf HP .30. Which is definitely better off the bench than in the field, IMHO.

So FX says that the King in .30 cal is good for max power of 130 FPE with 64 gr slugs. You are shooting your 59's at 111 FPE at the muzzle velocity you specify.

Per the FX website, the Crown Mk II is rated at 75 FPE in .30 cal, with the caveat "Note: Above figures are achieved with maximum length of barrel and in some cases heavy ammunition. Shorter barrel will produce less energy then the above."

So I guess that at max power your 59 gr slugs would be leaving the muzzle at just shy of 760 fps, all other things being equal, per a ballistic calculator (all theoretical and YMMV some). So Trucker is definitely right to say that you would be giving up a lot of power moving to a Crown.

I might kick myself for mentioning this, but what about Dr. Mike's BRK .30 Sonoran with the Sub-MOA manufactured barrel? Supposedly those are able to be tuned up to 90+ FPE and if you went back to a 480 or 580cc bottle, it would reduce the gun's weight some and probably make a great hunter. (90 FPE with a 59 gr projectile = about 830 fps muzzle velocity). I haven't shot a Sub-MOA barrel except for the one in my little Mordax, but I am very impressed with it so far.

His gun is found at the following link. I don't know the gun personally but I have bought and sold many times from Dr. Mike and he is a 110% straight-up buyer/seller. And if you buy his Sonoran, I won't be tempted to buy it for myself any more.

Sorry, that is his want to trade post. His want to sell post is:

If you have the Crown Continuum MKii, then don't buy another crown. Just get a .30 Caliber kit for it. I have a MKii Continuum I bought originally in .25, but I also now have caliber change kits in .22 and .30 for it. Easy to change calibers and takes maybe 5 min to do.
Understand what you are saying, but I don,t want to be doing a lot of switching. I know it cost more to purchase another one, but to me it would be just easier.

It should do more than 75 foot pounds. My .25cal MKII will do 70 foot pounds with a 700mm barrel and I haven't even install the slug power kit yet. Once FX puts out info on an air gun, they don't update it....ever. lol
