Finally got a chance to work on Mk. II. I swapped the 8” aluminum rod for 2, 4” ones connected with a threaded rod (secured to limit the travel). With the help of a few radial and thrust bearings on either end of the bottom rod and using 2 knurled thumb nuts with a slightly modified nylon flange bushing, I was able to secure things in place.
In addition to adjusting the position of the Aluminum Rod in the clamp and the clamp’s placement on the NATO Rail, there is now a “fine” tune adjustment (similar to @JimD) for the height. I need to add some athletic tape (or something similar) to the bottom rod to help with the grip, but otherwise it works fairly well - especially considering no alterations to the gun were required.
It does the job for way less than having to buy the Saber Tactical Adjustable Buttpad ($250) and their Field Monopod ($150).
No alterations to the gun were required.
