Fx Maverick - regulator issue?

Hey everyone, wanted to post this and see if I could get any feedback.

This is front reg only, I follow Steve’s tuning guide to the T. Set front reg seat it adjust more if needed seat the reg. But it refills the plenum SOOO slow and it does this while shooting at well (refills very slow). I can never hear my plenum breathing ( which is one of the main reasons I wanted a FX in the first place, it just sounds badass).

It’s 49 degrees tonight here in rochester, not sure if that has something to do with it. It does seem to fill faster when it’s warmer but still can’t hear the plenum.

I have chronographed the gun and velocities seem consistent. Is this normal?

What’s the difference between the regs? I found that a higher first reg will refresh faster than say 20-30 bar difference.

That was the the front reg only I was just trying to seat it so second reg wide open. I have played around with different tunes but deff does fill faster at 40 difference between the regs and that’s what I try to keep it at.

I have done some shot counts without letting the reg finish breathing and it was only a few fps slower. Don't worry about it.

I also should add my velocities are only consistent because I wait the minute or so in between shots.

That's pretty normal, have you polished your Belleville washers? Are the stacks in the proper sequence? Have you polished the piston and the adjuster? Can you take a picture of the #2 reg. I'm curious as to the depth.

The newer brass pistons breath better if they are the proper length. Mine were too long and FX sent me some delrin pistons that are the proper length and its working good now.

By measuring the length. The brass ones have a delrin tip. if I remember correct they should be 16mm and the long ones are 16.3mm.

The gauge is not good. The reason you can tell is the fact the plenum is refilling and the number is still going down. Recovery looks pretty normal. I wouldn't polish anything inside of an AMP regulator.

Not sure what you mean. The gauge definitely has a delay but it’s about .5 seconds and that’s normal for these orcair digital gauges. It’s reading within a BAR of my Wika gauge when I swap them out and the Wika shows the exact same thing…. Slow 1-1.5 minute refill on the plenum.

I have a Sekhmet (2 actually) on the way, one will be here tomorrow. Going to try again with that one as well to see if it’s showing the same thing.

If you were to put on an analog gauge it would immediately snap down to the pressure inside the plenum. It took over 4 seconds to read 136 down from 139.5. The valve pin was already shut and the plenum was already refilling while the digital gauge was still going down. Reinstall the wika gauge the gun came with and shoot that same video.

I can tomorrow when the wife lets me lol. As I said previously though my complaint is the refill speed not the read speed. I know the Wika will register the drop faster but the refill is just as long. Part of the reason I have been playing around with new/different gauges.

I have one, it's hit and miss, cool design but, it relies on a little o-ring on the inside and what appears to be vacuum. Taking them apart is easy, pop out the adjusting screw, pop out the housing, pull out the plunger, I use either the tool or a surgical clamp, VERY CAREFULLY, the washers tend to stick to the housing, The reassembly is ()()()()()(, then you put the plunger back in carefully making sure it's seated, put in the housing and snug it down, do not use a ball driver, then put in the adjuster, carefully, lightly screw it in, don't go all the way in. Ernst Rowe as well as 910 have some good videos. Be sure to lube the o-rings. I think I can do these darn things in my sleep now.
