FX FX or other ?

Do you want a simple grab-&-go rifle with few adjustments or engaging project with room for growth? Do you like traditional rifles with a beautiful wood stock & breech in front of your nose or does a skeletal bullpup with available accessories galore appeal to you? Do you want to hunt, shoot bench, compete, plink, or other? Will you shoot at 20 yards, 200 yards, or somewhere in between? How much power do you want/need? Between YouTube and this site you’ll find all the info to help.

My Impact M3 appears to have five adjustments, but I think it just really comes down to pressure and hammer spring tension, with the ability to limit valve travel after those two are set.

I followed Jerry52 advice about a year ago and acquired a Fx royale.wow what a rifle.thought about getting something else but don’t need to .this gun is perfect.bought it used .it is super accurate.i am a newbie.these rifles available for around 900$
My .22 Royale is my favorite gun, super accurate and with just enough adjustability to make it very versatile but uncomplicated.
Mine is in the shop right now though. I had a slight leak coming from the stock mounting bolt, which snapped while trying to change the oring, and then me in my wisdom also snapped a screw extractor in it trying to get it out. I gave up at this point.

You dummy! I can say that because I've done many similar things. As you now know, that stock attaching piece has a small shaft that will not take a lot of torque. I loosen that to degas the plenum on my Royale, so I've replaced several of those O rings. It's small, and the high pressure will burn through it quickly. Apply just enough torque that it doesn't leak, and you're done.
I agree with your assessment of the Royale; simple, durable and very accurate.

Yeah the problem was I never even got it undone to exchange the oring! The screw twisted and sheared off with little tension trying to remove it. I even pre heated it on the chance it had some thread locker. that job was very quickly over before it begun. Actually it continually went backwards as I proceeded.
But that was the first little leak in over 10 years, so no stress.

FX Impact M4 shoots in one hole out of the box at 40 yards. I'd say all of them. .50" and less at 100yards. why would you want to purchase something else? the crap guns are starting to get more expensive while FX has been basically the same price for quite a number of years. The low and mid-tier are pricing themselves out of the market. why buy their junk when you are going to have to upgrade.

If this were my problem to solve, I'd get a few of the screws from FX and also find a good air gun mechanic or machine shop that can get the sheared screw out
If that fails you would probably have to gift the Royale to me

I'm sorry, I have read this response 3 times. I don't understand how your response indicates any malice from me regarding FX. This post was about an FX Impact as a first "high end" PCP for a newbie. I recommended against that particular platform for reasons I posted earlier, plus my 2 cents mentioning possibly better models / brands that might be more favorable for a new shooter moving up to more tier 1 level guns.

So, with this being the subject at hand, how exactly have I done the "exact opposite" ?
I simply meant that you were receiving a lot of pro FX replies, that are far from a "hit on FX" !

As for a newbie wanting to upgrade and seeking recommendations....
I would ask a few simple questions first :

1. Conventional style rifle or something more modern?
2. Second question would be his budget?

Once those 2 questions are out of the way, it becomes much easier to make a recomendation, in my opinion.

The new Notos ($250) and Zelos ($450) would be great for a newbie, if they were seeking a sub $450 , modern rifle.
The Avenger X , and FX DRS would be a great if he wanted a conventional style rifle, under $1000.
Since he is upgrading to a "TIER 1", than he probably is well prepared to spend over $1000.
That really opens the doors to options, including the many different FX models including a Impact M4, and the Dynamic/King/Panthera models..

FX has done a great job floating to the front of the line when it comes to name recognition.
I own 2 and have owned 4 total.
That said there are so many different PCP guns that are just all excellent.
I have owned 2 pre-AirForce RAW's, 3 Air Arms, and now a Airmaks.

They have all been excellent shooters.
My 26 year old AirArms ProTarget shocked the hell out of me when I got it back from sealing and it shot just as good as my Crown that I use for 25 meter competition.

My Airmaks Katran SC has been a job to get tuned, but it is now a little 177 beast that shoots 8-9 fpe for 104 shots on a 250 bar fill on a 100cc tank.
And stacks pellets on top of each other at 22 yards.

My point is there is something for everyone is this sport and most are better shooters than the nuts that use them.

That's really odd. It must have been either cross-threaded or had some strong locking compound applied. If it's the former, you might have to replace the action. Good luck with it. It's a rifle worth saving.

Similar story here, I've owned 2 Marauders, 2 AirArms, AirForce Texan 357 (freebie), FX Wildcat, Cricket, FX Royal in 25 and 22, AGT Vulcan, Raw and a Regal XL.
Regret selling a couple of them but now I've been hanging on to a FX Impact 22/25 MKII, Crown 22/30 and a different Regal XL. All the previous guns were fair to great shooters but for some reason just got the bug to try something different.

Yep the itch is a difficult thing.
Sometimes you regret changing.
I have had a few that I miss.
Others that shot well but were not what I was looking for at the time.

well i consider myself to be a newbie to these pcp guns.
just got into them roughly late July.
did some research for a few months stepped in got a Notos.
wasn't long, shooting longer distance and wanting better accuracy with some knock down at a minimum 50 yds.
target 75-100yds 125 max.
being new to these i stumbled onto u tube this forum and a few others observed the mods being done and results.
that's it down i go bottle barrel kit regulator liner gauges plenums etc etc before you know it 13 ish into it.
now imagine what a shop gets to do the work plus port work? add that on. taste pretty close to a mid-level rifle to me.

2nd rifle FX M4 .25 600mm why
after building the notos which to me for what it is will shoot 25g jsb at 950-960 fps with a 380mm barrel pretty impressive imo.
but its not going to last for that long at those pressures that's needed to shoot those speeds. 750-800s no issues.
now that i started shooting slugs you need to be at 880+ on the low side 900+ for some slugs
the notos doesn't have the adjustability nor handle the pressures needed for slugs maybe but not to long.

now here comes reliability the machine work and materials used in the mid and higher-level guns there is just no comparison period.
although i seen some higher end guns that have some rough machine work,,,,,, I've seen better on guns 1/2 the price.
looked at a ghost which to me is a Daystate imo with a different name and a few changes really nice gun just wasn't comfortable or balanced well for me imo.
the skout i thought was ok until electronics sorry i don't need no glitches with my trigger i want to be in control not a computer.
electronics don't belong in guns imo or worry about sunlight on the lcd screen updates water etc pass imo.
daystate more than i wanted to spend raw has a couple real nice guns i liked, just to long for my application there is also a few other brands i liked just
not compact enough and then there is we don't carry them or cannot get them. so
i look at it like this, fx the more i read up on them had been basically the same platform base unit for 5-6 years or so.
when you have a good platform that works you only need to refine it,, not design a whole new model.
that's what i felt fx did as this m4 started 5-6 years ago and the m3 vs m4 if i owned one i wouldn't upgrade to the m4
maybe do some of the updates as they did to the m4? if it's to my advantage or the guns,
who else makes their own barrels? doesn't skout use fx liners? or they used to?
I've read good and bad about all barrels and liners imo they all shoot good, but you know when you get a good liner its good! or barrel..
i just got one... the superior heavy 1/18 twist shoots incredible.
Parts this is another reason there must be 6-8 fx dealers with parts in stock factory parts
some of the stories i read of people having a hard time getting parts for some guns others waiting a while months.
I'm sure it happens with fx as well and then some i just read the story.
if i were to do it again... hmm racing drag cars for 25 years motorcross atvs remote control cars
etc etc yeah probably but in reality, if i had bought the fx first i would have never had all that fun building my Notos..
it also comes down to how much you want to spend in today's world a 800 mountain bike is now 3k
this is my opinion and just that no pun intended.

Growing into a sport can be more expensive than diving into the deep end at times.
But can be rewarding when you learn as you did what does and does not work.
My first PCP was an Air Arms s510, I regulated it,
put a foster fill adapter to it, found a used Ultimate sporter stock and had a great gun.
I started shooting bench rest matches and figured out there were better guns for that, even though I loved that gun.
I spent more than buying parts than buying a completed gun, but I learned along the way.

Along the way from there to here I have owned many makes and configurations each having things I liked and some I did not.
It is an expensive journey but much cheaper than Drag Racing for 25 years as you have done.
I have my own motorsports addiction issues as well 2 Aprilias, and a 1LE Camaro at the house will speak to that.

Enjoy the addiction and try not to let it make you too broke. LOL.

LOL sure is cheaper than racing seeing it mow cost 17 a gal for for c116 and a small block ate 1-1/4 gallons a run
that's about 2 tins of pellets one 9 sec pass.
got out of racing 8 years ago stepped into 4x4 atvs 30 in tires etc.
read about these got into it and really enjoy the sport and just like any other the sky is the limit.
I'm happy with what i have now between the gk1 and m4
the notos will always be my favorite gun i enjoy shooting but selling to buy a 30 cal
and that should do it..

Got rid of my m3 for a Skout. No regrets. I just hope that Skout in the future makes an even slightly lighter than the evo platform more slanted to hunters. Not sure that will happen as their focus seems to be on competition. I just love the fact I can not touch a setting on the gun and go from 910 fps with 33.95 in .25 to 880-890 with 44.75 in .30. Can’t do that with an impact. Much simpler to work on too and built way more solidly in my opinion.

If you love your Notos this much and are nostalgic about it in addition I would keep it and wait a couple of months to save additional funds for the .30 you want.

When you’re new to this there is an itch to get new stuff, here and now (and to be honest it never really goes away, but… it numbs down a bit)… but seems like you have a good selection of toys already to keep you occupied for a bit. Think about it this way: which thought is more likely a year down the road? 1. Hell I really miss that Notos and the fun I had with it OR 2. Man I’m glad I got that .30 2-3 months faster and don’t miss my Notos one bit.
