FX Panthera - glad I purchased it…..

Have you guys "owners" found any negative issues or is there anything annoying that you wish you could change. In considering one but considering waiting a few more months and looking for feedback. For those of you that have this and an Impact M3 which do you prefer and why.

As I would be shooting in the back yard and do have an HOA(a few Karens looming about) how loud is it and would you recommend a moderator?

To me the low shot count would be annoying. Does anyone else find it annoying or do you just get uses to it. I dont have an SCBA tank currently but my compressor is only a few feet away.

I pretty much shoot form a window in the house so the gun would be stationary for 90% of the time and have a a good 130yds of shooting space in the back yard. My use case would be plinking and accuracy at 100+. Would this be overkill?

Are you primarily using slugs or pellets?
Late to the show but I recently got a .25 600mm panthera and it is by far the loudest pcp I own by alot. I damn near had ringing in my ears it's bark was so loud. I had a donnyfl ronin laying around for so long it's probably the version 1. I screwed that on the end and you couldn't hear anything but the action and the target getting hit after that.

Anyone use this rifle in NRL22 / PRS? The 700 is really long, and I'm curious if you can get the 22/25 in 600 down to an MOA at 100. I'd be looking to shoot 34gr in 22 or 40/41 in 25.

I'm working on my 700mm 22 M3 (heavy liner) currently and got it shooting 34gr slugs at about 1.5 to 2 MOA at 100. It's a work in progress. I had a 600mm 25 heavy liner on it before but couldn't get results I was happy with. I'm not super confident the 600mm 25 liner is good with slugs, at least on the M3.

I'm interested to hear some real world feedback about the Panthera used for this purpose.
I know centercut had a laser of a 600mm 25. Mine was not that accurate out of the box. After the barrel was cleaned and altaros 50g were flying at 890 fps I was still getting 2-3" groups at 100 yards. I was really hoping for a laser like these other guys got but mine was not shooting great. Now I'll have to try and figure it out or send it off. Sounds like most guys got good 1s from the factory though so I'm guessing I'm the odd case or I'm not doing something correctly.

Definitively will need a good moderator. Performs dead on first time and every time. Shooting the Zan 33 Gr at 1060. The 700 mm is definitely a bench gun, especially weighted down , and I get about 17/18 shots per fill (.22cal). It is easy to tether from a bench. No issues to report here after probably ten to twelve weeks.

What are your reg and micro wheel settings for the Altaros?
Is it holding a consistent reg pressure and recovering quickly between shots? Some have regs that exhibit more creep and slower refresh, particularly when they’re breaking in. That would certainly account for the lack of accuracy.

@weevil I was testing multiple slugs and I believe the altaros were the last 1s but I can't remember now since i kept going back and forth trying different speeds and diameters. My settings currently are 140/3.5. I experimented with different reg pressures and spring tensions to see how the gun responded. I adjusted and then shot empty chamber a few times to level reg before moving into slinging lead. Please let me know if the settings should be something specific for the 50g altaros.

The trigger breaks clean but is very heavy from the factory. I'll have to look in the manual to make some adjustments. I like a significantly lighter pull for sure.

I'm brand new to tuning and have only turned the hammer spring adjustment just recently on a airgun for the 1st time 😆. I figured if i was going to try and attempt to learn something it would be with external adjustments. Well here we go 🤣.

Best 100 yrd group 🤣 Pretty bad I know. No breeze today so real bad imo. It was weird though, I would move to the next target on multiple occasions and the 1st shot would be dead nuts bullseye then all down hill from there... reg was all over the place also. I would get 2 or 3 shots same fps then I'd get 1 that was 20-30 fps difference. Then couple shots were close then some big differences. I couldn't pin down what was going on since I'm not real knowledgeable on the tuning homefront.

@bdzjlz I have 2 sessions in with the panthera so nothing crazy. 1st session was no cleaning just test a few slugs and fps. Before the 2nd session I cleaned the barrel on @drumie advise (thanks drumie!) and saw noticeable improvements in accuracy but as you can see nothing great. Also I'd guesstimate I currently have 300 rounds through it at this point.

Sounds like you have some reg misbehavior. Take a look at how it does refreshing between shots. Sometimes it improves after a few hundred shots. I have 3 of em. One was good from the get go, another improved and the third one got a Huma. Rather than wasting slugs, you can simply dry fire it a couple hundred times! Your reg and micro settings are in line with what I’d expect to be optimal for those slugs at 890.

Try shooting a group with sufficient time between shots for the reg/plenum to recover back to 140.

Regarding the trigger, there’s a tiny set screw at the top of the blade that allows the blade to be moved along the shoe. Because it works as a cantilever, it affects the weight of pull. Not the most precise way to adjust the trigger but I noticed that my guns shipped with the blade in different positions and it had a substantial effect on the pull and feel. Very easy to adjust and another thing to try while dry firing to bed in the reg 😯

Edit: just saw that you have 300 through it. If it isn’t good by 500 then I’d throw in the towel. You can try polishing surfaces and washers but it’s a PITA, get a replacement from FX (another lottery IMHO), or get the Huma, which (in my use) is better than even my good stock reg by some margin (no creep and fastest refresh)

@weevil I'll try your suggestions! Thanks again to everyone that is contributing and trying to help. It makes me feel like this thing might work out 😆.
The regs seem to be the weak link. I spend a lot of time at UA and whenever the Panthera reg is mentioned, the eyebrows get raised. Last I heard, their tech was rearranging the bellville stacks to get faster refresh at sub-150 pressures.

Just went outside and confirmed settings and fps. The reg is now performing flawless somehow. Maybe I broke it in finally 😆.You can see the seconds between shots and I was watching the reg to confirm it had reset before I pulled the trigger again. It looked like it was fully reset after 3-4 seconds Not sure what to think. I'll see how accurate it is tomorrow after another barrel cleaning. Hopefully this means progress! 🙏
