FX pocket chrono problems

No just took a look inside as i replenished my ammo suitcase, and the chrono look every bit as good inside as i would expect a piece of new electronic to do.
But it looked just as it did in this post But i think that is very much intentional, the only way to make it seat better would be to replace the 3 mm thick sticky pad with one that are just 1 mm thick.
I did not do that, but i did put a little bit of foam ( stiffer than regular foam ) on the side of the radar PCB at the top where the plug are, so the connector should not be able to wiggle, or at least wiggle even less.

I had issues with mine. Placement on the barrel was finicky. I found a location that was reliable and marked it with some white tape.
Next session it was fickle.
Another shooter at the range watched me and said take it off the barrel and put the barrel V facing down. No more issues and it has not been on a barrel ever since. Much easier way to use it.

If you close that background app by swiping it away, then reopen the chrono app again, it will work just fine.
I have noticed the same thing. I have gotten into the habit of "Force Stopping" my FX Radar app when I am done using the Chrono, and it typically works starting it back up.

I have also gotten a WHOLE LOT more consistent results by not mounting it to the barrel with the rubber bands. Instead, I just use a small container below the muzzle to hold the Chrony about an inch from the Donny Moderator, about 2" from the end of the barrel. Force stopping it like this, and with the placement, I am only missing (maybe) 1 in 25 shots or so. It's still not perfect, but this helps.

Peashooter,
My FX Chrono has been doing something similar lately.
I pulled it out of my gear bag several weeks ago and put it on the gun per usual. Nothing. It turns on just fine, the app says it's connected, shows battery level at almost 95% but it won't read any shots or do anything. I tried it on a second rifle and also a Crosman pistol with no luck so I'm assuming the unit died after only a couple years use. Put in brand new batteries just in case......no change. Tried all the usual gymnastics with placement of the unit, you know - move it forward, move it back, twist it to the side, etc. with no luck either. Deader' than a doornail! When it works, it works great. When it doesn't, its really frustrating.

But, I haven't thought about deleting the app and reloading it till I saw this thread. I'll give it a try this week and report back. Thanks for the suggestion.
mine is brand new and is acting like you just said . i thought it was just having a conflict with my talkback app on the android phone since i use talkback all the time. i am blind so ti figure it is a conflict in the talking of the apps. but from what you say i am wondering now

A-Sniper,
I didn't feel the FX, in my case, was worth the hassle to make it work, missed shots, and so forth so now it's just sitting here on the pile of unwanted toys :sneaky:

I ended up buying a Competition Electronics Pro Chrono DLX and the light kit for it and it has worked flawlessly. Don't need the light kit if you have it out in the sun, but I use it if I'm in the shade or inside. The only missed shots I've had are where I'm not paying attention and start to shoot a little crooked between the metal arms above the sensors on top of the unit. I've been very happy with it so far. It's software is a little dated and needs to be brought up to date in my opinion but it all works when you get over the short learning curve.

@Pea-shooter O.G. @Aetheral-Sniper Likely the antenna inside is loose. It has a three pin socket and must be reseated.

does that chrono use an app or is it self contained? does it have accessability or voice broadcast ?cause i am blind and need it to speak. and agree the fx is too much trouble. i am sending it to a sighted friend who is a lead caster to test , if it dont work ill send it back , if it works just not for me i willget him to sell it for me at full price cause it is new in the box .

How are you positioning your FX Chrony? Are you attaching it to the barrel or bottle? I have tried in the past by placing the chrony on a mini tripod directly under the barrel. It worked but I still got some missed readings. I solved my problem by creating a mount directly under my bottle/barel where I can place the chrony in the same spot all the time. I haven't had any missed readings since.

Here is a picture of it. I have modified it to fit under the Snowpeak M60B.

And here I thought it was just mine doing that!! I mean come on FX WTF? I spent some good hard earned $$$ for a chrono that only works when it wants to. I got it to save time by not having to set up my Cauldwell and it was compact enough to throw in my range bag. Glad I didn't give my Cauldwell away like I was going to....

Mine has been working fine, but it sounds like you have more experience with the chrono than I. I've heard of others having issues as well. Please keep us informed if you get the bugs worked out.
I had problems with my latest iPhone update and pixel nine pro XL update. I would fire a shot and the chronograph would not pick it up after it was paired

So lately my chrono have been acting up, and not really wanting to measure / say anything.
My first fix was to calibrate to +0.1 and that also worked for that session, but then this weekend it was back to only wanting to do a few shots after profile change.

My end solution ( annoying one ) was to delete the app and install it again, but that annoying meant that i lost all my custom profiles

Anyone else had their FX chrono back itself into a corner like that ?
Is there a way to update the FX Pocket Chrono firmware?
