FX POCKET CHRONOGRAPH

You can place the unit on a small tripod directly under the barrel but I find it cumbersome sometimes as you need to line it up perfectly each time. So I did a DIY system where I made a rail and have the unit (removable) mounted under the barrel.

I considered buying this chrono because it is simple and compact.
The issues with simple placement and the low velocity limits negates it being a viable option for the cost.
Labradar even though it’s more expensive, relatively complex and larger offers improved accuracy for a wider range of weapons.
I already have multiple platforms to mount it so overall it’s a matter of "buy once cry once" just for the simple performance improvement alone imho.
I noticed a stripped down Labradar for $550 on a web site yesterday which seems like a very viable option for this miser to save his money for.

I’ll add that even though typical chronographs are more accurate when and where I usually shoot makes a simple one unit setup desirable.

So, how far is too far? I've noticed that it likes to be back a bit, 4" - 6" to enter the cone. Also being more on the same plane, or close to it, as the barrel seems to help.
According to the radar instrumentation guy I used to work with, the radar should be as close to the barrel as possible. He always had them alongside the barrel unless something else was in the way, in which case it would go below. He was always careful to line the radar up with the barrel. It was usually a few inches behind the muzzle.

As he was a recognized world-class expert on tracking gun projectiles with Doppler radars, I just followed what he said.

I'm going to risk my FX radar and my iPhone and put it down by my target 30 yards away. I'm not sure that Apple Care will cover it if bad things happen ...'Hi, my iPhone stopped working, I have Apple Care' "Thank you for contacting Apple, what happened?" 'I put a pellet through it'....but I'll make the sacrifice for science. Way more fun than using some software.

Has anyone tested how far your barrel can be from the unit and still have it picked up?
You can mount it as far away as you want to. Of course there are limitations you probably want your Bluetooth within range or have the cell phone near enough to the chronograph without it getting shot. The other thing to remember is change the speed of the chronograph to read sub 12 if you're going to go 30 yds or further as pellets will lose a lot of speed in just 30 to 50 yds.

so my prod clocks in at 615 fps with an 18g pellet. Vulcan 3 clocks 920 fps with a 21g slug.. this new uragan 2 on 21g slug or 25.4 redesings..… nada. outrunning the radar i guess not broke, just not reading u2..
Try a 33.956 Jsb Jumbo Beast exact. That will slow the speeds down. My tune on my 800mm was 1030 with 40 gr slug but would not register with the 25 gr because it was too fast.
