FX producing "Ratsniper" style slugs

FX is like the Apple of the airgun world. People either love them or hate them. It’s amusing how FX posts or videos always bring negative commentary.

I don’t know about this Rat Sniper guy but it seems like he upset some customers by not keeping up with demand. In his post he says that an RMR technician is operating the machines and Rat Sniper is involved in packaging (and I assume QA) and still owns the design.

This seems like a branding arrangement like how JSB makes FX pellets. Using the FX name and network to expand the brand. Maybe one day FX will hire this guy onto their staff and absorb him into their operation.

Once again FX has taken the bull by the horns, 

In one of my earlier posts I stated that the one way that slugs was going to truly advance is by the gun manufactures getting involved and teaming up with the bullet manufactures. 



I don't know anything about the guy that designed these but I am sure FX is going to make sure things stay on an even keel. 

As to the price, When I am out plinking I buy plinking pellets, if I am out hunting I buy the best performing hunting bullet I can. I would much rather pay more if it means there is less chance of me having to track a lethally wounded animal down. I really don't see any other use for a hollow point bullet than hunting so that's what is classify these as.

Me and my sister actually had a conversation this evening about why air guns and related stuff was so much more expensive than firearms, One of the best reasons I could explain was that a person can design a good hunting firearm and expect to sell say 500,000 in the first year recouping the cost of the tooling and engineering, whereas in the airgun world as niche market perhaps only half that number of units will be sold, even though the tooling and engineering will cost the same. As such they cost more,

True advancement is going to cost money, and as business that cost has to be passed down to the consumer 

We have as airgunners all faced the same situation of being told and even shown that a certain pellet/bullet works best for that owners gun only to find their very same make and model for whatever reason does not shoot that pellet/bullet as well. So I am always on the band wagon of having a wider choice of quality pellets/bullets to choose from

I too hope to see these in the .25 and larger calibers also

As far as cost I would say that airgun ammunition at the same volumes would cost much less than powder burner ammunition. However as far as the guns themselves, I find that airguns in general are much more complex then powder burners with more parts and machining and therefore the production costs are actually much higher than powder burners.

And if you look at the cost of an AR-15 from a smaller manufacturer that isn’t a DPMS or Bushmaster, they can easily cost over $1k. There’s a lot of human hands touching air rifles during production and they’re produced at a much smaller volume than traditional firearms.

As far as the slug cost, I look at it like I do powder burner hunting ammo. Those rounds cost over $1 each so I don’t plink with them at the range, I save them for actual hunting. Same with these FX slugs - I certainly won’t be plinking with them but instead I’ll save them for furry prey.

Okay guys I just got done testing the new FX slugs out of my daystate Huntsman XL I know that is a low-power gun but I still had high hopes. My gun hated them I wouldn't even call it a group. My average for 10 shots was 586 ft per second. By the way my gun absolutely loves the jsb Hades and it shot them today at 889 feet per second which is 40 feet per second lower than my summer velocity. They chamber incredibly hard in my gun so I assume they're very tight and that's why the velocities are so low. By the way I was using labradar so I could do velocities all the way out to 50 yards and at 586 the ballistic coefficient is .062 out of my gun. By the way the group from the Hades was more than 1/2 inch but less than an inch at 50 yards and they are pretty devastating on Timber Tigers I can attest to that I put 75 down this year. It looks like the FX slugs feel the need for speed so hopefully you guys that can push them faster will have better luck than I did
