FX FX Ranchero barrel removal?

Well, I got my answer. Best I can tell the barrel was epoxied in the gun. Used this muzzle brake and a socket extension to twist the barrel free and work it out. Used a file to clean out the gunk or epoxy and the barrel assembles like a normal airgun barrel should now. Transfer port was clocked incorrectly. Last people to work on this was FX USA. Barrel oring was also torn. Not sure if this was from me or what.

Whatever was in there was hard. Black. And it came off like epoxy does any time I've had to file any before.... Can only guess, but that's what it seemed like to me. The forward barrel oring was shot. Forward barrel set screw hole had a pretty large bur, so got rid of that as well. Need to get back in there and check the other hole better, but I think it was good. Maybe a poor or lazy attempt to seal the front of the barrel? IDK. I'll work on it some more another day. Report was the gun was down on power after FX re-sealed it. Maybe that was due to the misaligned port. Honestly don't know if they even removed the barrel. I would assume a "re-seal" would include every seal on and in the gun, but I've made the mistake of trusting other's work plenty of times. The oring inside for the probe seems to be pretty used. Need to get a better light on it at a later date. Didn't have all my tools, nor a lot of time. I'll massage the ports some and get all the seals fresh, and that'll be about it. Doing some work on the trigger as well since I incresed the trigger blade leverage when I relocated it more forward on the trigger bar in order to fit an old stock. Seems the only way to adjust break weight is by installing a stiffer or weaker spring under the bar at the rear. Honestly don't know anything about this trigger system, but testing seems to indicate this to be the case. Was breaking far too lightly after the blade was moved. Pulled another spring out of my spare bits, and seems to be about right now. One in it was cut at some prior date.

Glad you yourself are going thru it! Fantastic guns! Are you thinking of putting a reg in it!? Since you're already in there, I think that platform would be incredible regged! Keep us updated on the rebuild.

That'll really depend on how it performs. It seems to have an excellent shot string with very low ES for about 30 shots with the airtube extension. I believe the gun was intended to be unregulated, and seems to perform well that way, so I will most likely not regulate it. I'll need to shoot it more, and test more. But there's a good chance I will leave it as is. No clue how old this one is, but appears to have a 12 groove LW barrel in it. The grip design and wear on it's exterior indicates it is fairly old. So far, it seems to prefer crosman pellets. So, that is nice. Extremely accurate. Just figured I'd go thru it, check things over, get acclimated to it's components, assembly, and operation. And give it a small bump in power via some minor port re-working. I know this can also aide accuracy as well from a reduction of turbulance. Not that any of that appears to be needed.

Don't forget to "JB Weld" that barrel back in place! 🤪
Just a side note, I replaced my FX Boss regulator with a Huma this past summer instead of OEM FX reg. The difference it made is incredible. Power,FPS, accuracy & shot count is through the roof. Just a heads up for IF you decide to add a reg.
