Tuning fx streamline tuning

Hi members . very very new to this forum... im looking for threads started on tuning fx streamline if some one could point me in the right direction please or id also be grateful for some advice form experienced members on this topic!

I currently have a fx streamline.22 its fac 29ft-lb iv owned it just over 2 years and it still operates very well but iv decided to tune it for 18gr jsb pellets .22 as i have a good supply of them and would like to get them out with as much speed and accuracy as is with in there limits ... from posts on other sights and comments on youtube the smooth twist barrel will shoot the jsb 18gr accurately between 860 -880 ish fps iv even seen videos of them leaving streamline at 915fps and seemed fairly accurate to!!

iv just bought a huma reg along with a seal kit and new cylinder gauge for the gun ... the old gauge was well off!! there in the post and should have them next week hopefull..

my current reg is operating fine and sits at about 125 bar and with the hammerspring maxed out im getting to 860 no more !! thats the reason i went with the huma i fell after a few years the reg could do with a rest and the fact the huma comes with the pressures marked out is great !!

so bottom line is il be seeking advice form members as to how i go about getting a harmonic tune with in my speed goal around the 880 fps

many thanks

look forward to some comments

Tom

Hi Tom, I have a little expertise in tuning FX Streamlines and so will offer a little advice to help you get your rifle where you want it. First, I recommend you purchase one of the Huma Reg Testers - https://www.huma-air.com/Huma-regulator-tester - this will allow you to make adjustments to your new Huma Regulator with confidence. I would start out by setting it to 140 bar and then begin the process of adjusting your hammer spring tension. This should give you more power than you actually need, but if so that's ok because in setting your rifle up for its best accuracy I work backwards from too much power to just right.

So let's say you set a target at 50 yards, and with your regulator set at 140 bar, and your hammer spring tension adjusted to give you the max velocity, your rifle shoots the JSB 18 grain pellets at 930 ft./s... but the groups at 50 yards are at 1 1/2". Not to worry, because you will then turn your hammer spring adjustment nut counter clockwise 1/4 turn and shoot a couple more groups...and lets say that brings your group size down to 1"...you will then repeat the process of turning your hsn counter clockwise lowering your velocity by about 10 ft./s as you go until you get to the optimal group size. That Original Smooth Twist Barrel will shoot 1/4" to 3/8" groups at 50 yards with the JSB 18 grainers at an average velocity setting of 880 ft./s to 895 ft./s. So just keep lowering the velocity a little at a time and shooting groups until you've got them going into one tiny little hole.

There are two different approaches to tuning your Streamline - one way is to have higher reg pressure but with low hammer spring tension...which is the way I prefer for long term consistency. The other way is to set up your rifle with low reg pressure and maxed out hammer spring tension. I strongly recommend the former way over the latter way of tuning, because it results in a far smoother shot cycle and better and more consistent accuracy over time. Good luck with it.

All the best, Chuck

Chuck thank you so much for that explanation of the tuning process .i look forward to putting it in to action once my order has arrived from huma !

I know the 18gr jsb are a good pellet out of my rifle and carry alot of punch with them down range as well as the fact iv tins apon tins of them here aswell as a freshly topped up tank of air so iv no excuse not to get stuck in to tuning ...I would like very much to fire some questions at you along the way !! Be no harm to have an experienced tuner in my corner!!

Il keep ya posted here on the progress

Many thanks agen

Regards

Tom .

You are most welcome Tom...if you have any questions later just PM me here and I will be glad to help. Sometimes I will help you solve a problem over the phone but then also answer it here too in the hopes that it may benefit others someday down the road. I am the person that worked with Huma to develop that regulator for my Wildcat Original MKI and then figured out how to also use in my .25 cal. Streamline. I had it shooting the JSB MKII 33.95 grain pellets at 895 ft./s into one tiny hole the size of a pellet...that's just over 60 ft.lbs. energy out of a rifle that got 43 ft.lbs energy from the factory...and an absolute tack driver! For more tuning advice on your Streamline you may contact another forum member here by the name of GabeRossi...who by the way owns my old rifle and can make groups with it at 100 yards that have to be seen to be believed. 😂

Best regards, Chuck

Can I reverse charge the calls to you chuck 😆😆😆

I'm in the very west of Ireland ...county Mayo !!

This platform will do just fine to answer questions !!! I actually have one now!! Iv being told that the smooth twist barrel should not have flyers is this true ??

As its spring time here and very rarely we get a day with out wind or a breeze iv noticed that I might put a group of 18gr pellets in one large ragged hole at 50m with some pellets scattered around it ...it could be the breeze at the muzzle that causes this or down range as we have no indoor ranges here or out door range near by so I shoot on a dead end forestry road so breeze can be a contrabuting factor but can my current set up of hammer spring set to max ....no more adjustment!! cause pellets to become flyers by causing turbulence as the pellet leaves the muzzle ??

The reg on my .22 streamline I believe is set to 125 bar and iv the hammer spring wound in all the way to get jsb 18gr out at an average of 860fps i now know from videos iv just wound it up for speed and more than likely wasting lots of air so i plan on getting it as close as i possibly can to a very efficient and accurate gun !!

Time for cot as its 1:30 am here in mayo

Look forward to chatting agen chuck

Take care

This is a graph of my current set up of the gun !! As I haven't graphed anything since school I taught I'd have a go so downloaded these 1/4 printable graphs sheets ...its more for experimental purposes...I graphed data i collected last week and it could be a bit more accurate as i didnt cycle the gun between shots !! I just learned that tip lately!

But the graph shows me that my gun peaks at 910-911 so am I correct in staying that's the max the reg has to offer for the 16gr jsb and at present setting it's not in harmony!! ie its wasting air .

If I tuned it back to 880 or900 it would be in a better place where it's more efficient?

This is just me feeling my way about and understanding the way it works I know the real test will arrive with the huma reg next week!!

I'm getting excited at the challenge!! What are the challenges ahead?? Is it a difficult process or just tedious?? My biggest obstacle will be getting out to shoot groups !! I dont have a range near by and I have no more than 20m here at home also the weather is a major problem!! I'm hoping later in a few weeks my buddy will have cleared out the sheep shed so I may get 40m of indoor plinking range and will have to wait for flat cam day to go further!!
