My buddy and I have about 6 permissions, mostly picked up in the last 3 years.
I guess we would have more but we have not stopped and asked more than that.
We have never been turned away and in most cases have just stopped at a farm where we saw pigeons on the silos.
We leave our guns in the truck great the owner and proceed to tell him or her that we are airgun hunters who like to shoot pests on other peoples properties, we were wondering if you would allow us to do this etc. etc.
Some times if we pest at nearby farm we mention that land owner, and if we have just come from another nearby permission we say so.
We do not go into details unless asked, have not been asked to show them our guns but are always willing to and when we see them out and about they usually show interest in whatever guns we are using and we immediately offer to let them shoot them.
Simple, friendly, respectful, to the point.
We have never had any complaints and have been welcome back at every permission we have.
Important to know is that we are almost never the first to ask this at a farm. Several places we go to have had guys shooting pigeons with 12 gauge shotguns and "sniping" fox or groundhogs with sporting rifles "PB".
When we are done the first time at a new place they seem to always ask "did we shoot any thing" they didn't hear us shooting. Then they see the pile of pigeons, starlings, hosps and sometimes groundhogs, and their faces just light up and they grin.
Just be yourself. The worst they can do is say no.
