I am looking for a small/medium pest hunting riffle. From my searching, I have narrowed my choices to two contenders and a third possible. The two that seem most apealing to me are the Hatsan Galation and the Sumatra 2500, both in .25 cal. Has anyone had the opportunity to shoot either of these. Both have ups and down for me. I would like a third person's view of these.

My vote would be for the Sumatra. Easier follow up shots and not very pellet fussy. That gun is the Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of air guns, dial it down for plinking and turn it up to a medium game hammer. The mag will take much heavier ammo getting over 70fpe no problem. Not to diss the Galation I think it's an attractive gun and the removable tube is a bonus, but the Sumatra is more versatile. Good luck.

Wink, Don't forget about the .25 Condor, with those two guns. Lots of possibilities Airforce platform offers, 500cc air tube, LW barrel - good package.

If I had to pick a hunting gun between the two rifles, I would take Sumatra 2500, 500cc also. Because of that 70fpe power. Which the Condor .25 can also do btw. Sumatra is a multishot gun, it does have some advantage for a fast follow up shot.

Technically speaking Galatian is a better designed gun, one piece receiver block, removable air cylinder, and easy removable barrel. So for self service wise the Galatian is better. Side lever on these is also smooth. This gun has a lot of like HW100 features in a shot gun like style rifle. But the air cylinder volume on Galatian is too small for .25 cal. At 55-60fpe you will get like 8-10 shots.

Build quality Korea vs Turkey, about the same QC overall, many things could be done better. The Airforce product would be better in this department. However the Condor in it's factory stock form is not a complete package it needs a stock option badly. Maddog stock have good profile airforce gun stocks that finish this gun up. But you will spend more then on the Sumatra or Galatian in the end. If this matters.

So all in all, Sumatra 500cc version, is a winner here, price wise, and power wise out of the box. All you need is a scope and pellets and you are ready.

If they ever decide to put 400-500cc air cylinders on the Galatians then it will be a winner in .25 cal in this price range. I did like many features of the Galatian I had owned.
