Gamo GAMO BUYERS BEWARE!!

My first Gamo was the Magnum GR in .25 cal. Steel breach, steel barrel. Shoots great. Just love it.
So I ordered the Gamo GR .22 cal.
It has a PLASTIC BREACH AND PLASTIC BARREL with a thin metal liner. The latch that holds the barrel closed is PLASTIC!!
FKN JUNK!!

I’m so pissed they went this route.

SHAME ON YOU GAMO!!

Please spread the word so we the people can speak with our wallet. A language Gamo is sure to understand.

Hatsan did the same thing with at least 3 of theirs. I haven't looked in awhile to see if there are others, but the Alpha, AirTact and the new Model 65 all have barrels like that. Thin metal, rifled sleeve for a barrel encased in a one piece polymer shroud/breech block assembly. The sleeve is flanged at the breech end and threaded at the muzzle end for a nut and washer to keep it from moving.
Hatsan at least used a metal latch wedge on theirs.
I have more pics of the refurb I bought just to tear down and see how it was built but these should give you at least a little idea.

I just can't see these rifles lasting very long. So much for passing it on to someone younger years down the road.

Once I tore the Swarm autoloader contraption off my Gamo Magnum I actually got pretty decent accuracy from it. I also gained about 25 fps. Groups of 2" or less at 50 yards are common and for such a lightweight and heavily sprung gun I find that pretty impressive. It's significantly more powerful and more accurate than my old Beeman Kodiak was. It's also much lighter, has a much better trigger and after adjusting for inflation it was probably less than 1/3 the price. So as tempting as it is to dunk on Gamo, I've got to admit they've done some things right.

Great choice, are you getting it tuned or waiting to see if it will need tuning
Thanks. And I’m not planning on having it tuned. I may change my mind after a few tins of shooting. But I’m thinking I read on AoAs website. That this one comes tuned.
Let me see if I can find it and add a pic
If I were to have work done to it. What would you suggest and why?

I have the Magnum GR in .25 cal and it’s awesome. Have the Gamo Hunter in .22 that is also quite accurate.

The .22 MAGNUM GR had a sloppy breach, and very sloppy barrel. Pellet falls right through.
It’s on its way back to Gamo.
And an HW95 is heading my way. Time to try a higher end gun.

You won't regret that hw95. Comparing it to a Gamo is like comparing a Lexus to a Geo. I never get tired of shooting mine.

Owning an HW95 .22 myself (and an R9 in .20), another happy owner saying you won't regret it. Look forward to pics and hearing your thoughts on it when you finally get hands on and some shooting time.
I called them back to have them install a Vortex kit. So I should have it sometime next week. I also requested a well figured stock. Will see if they find me a cool one.

I've got some really nice high end airguns and powder burners as well, but my favorite gun overall is my HW95. It's got a CSUK thumbhole stock on it, a DonnyFL moderator and a 4-16x scope and it's just a fantastic rifle to shoot. If I were to do it all over again though, I would have purchased a tuned one in .20 and I would have opted for a non-thumbhole stock. Those .177 pellets tend to get blown around too much at distance and while the thumbhole stock is beautiful and fits like a glove, something that never occurred to me when I purchased it was that with the automatic safety on the HW95 the thumb hole prevents your thumb from easily deactivating the safety. You quickly learn to compensate by sliding your left hand down the stock or reaching your thumb up and around before settling into a firing position, but it's not ideal.

Mine is from back in 2015-2016 when AoA was selling off their standard stocked versions for a whole $299.99. Internals are still factory original 8 years later although I still have a new in bag Vortek PG2 kit I bought for it a month or so after I got the rifle. Has shot so well and still does, I've seen no need to put the kit in it.
Only things I've done to it were drop it in a custom laminate stock and change out the Hawke Airmax 3-9x40 AMX for a bit bigger Airmax 4-12x40.
